All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/wv/wvfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Brian Core greenhouseguy@comcast.net May 22, 2010, 9:19 am Written: December 31, 1798 Recorded: December 31, 1798 John Statler 400 acres Monongalia James Wood Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia To all whom these presents shall come Greeting Know ye that by virtue of a Certificate in Right of Settlement given by the Commissioners for adjusting the titles to unpatented Lands in the district of Monongalia Yohogania & Ohio and in Consideration of the Ancient Compensation of two pounds Sterling paid into the Treasury of this Commonwealth, there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto John Statler a certain tract or parcel of Land Containing four hundred Acres by Survey bearing date the the eighth day of September one thousand seven hundred and ninety five,lying and being in the County of Monongalia on Dunkerd Creek including his Settlement made thereon in the year on thousand Seven hundred and seventy and bounded as followeth to wit, Beginning at a Sugar tree near the bank of Dunkerd Creek and running up the said Creek with the Meanders thereof two hundred and thirteen poles to a Sugar tree corner to William Dougherty, South twenty six degrees West two hundred and eighty eight poles with a line of William Dougherty to a black oak and Hickory corner to said Dougherty thence still with Dougherty's line North thirty eight degrees West ninety four poles to a poplar another corner of said Dougherty, thence leaving his lines South forty eight degrees West one hundred and forty two poles to two Hickories South thirty five degrees East two hundred and one poles to a poplar & Beech North sixty seven degrees East forty three poles to a white oak North thirty seven degrees east three hundred and forty poles crossing a run to the Beginning with its Appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of Land With its Appurtenances to the said John Statler and his Heirs forever In Witness whereof the said James Wood Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia hath hereunto set his hand and Caused the lesser Seal of the said Commonwealth to be Affixed at Richmond on the thirty first day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight and of the Commonwealth the twenty third James Wood (Virginia Land Office Grants No. 42, 1798-1799, pp. 77-78).
