Dunmore's War Militia Roster, 1774
Commissioners met at Fort Pitt in September 1775 to pay militia members who took
part in Dunmore’s War in 1774 and to compensate those who had defended the
frontier immediately prior to Dunmore’s War. Original copies of the
commissioners’ records are at the Library of Virginia in Richmond and can be
viewed on microfilm Miscellaneous Reel 78. This entire roll of microfilm was
scanned and placed on the Library of Virginia web site, but it is only partially
indexed. 

Captain David Scott settled on Scott’s Run near what is now Morgantown,
Monongalia County, West Virginia in about 1770. It would have been part of the
District of West Augusta, Virginia during Dunmore’s War. Some of Capt. Scott’s
militiamen lived in what is now the Morgantown area, while others are clearly
from the Dunkard Creek settlement near Blacksville.
