Peters Family Info - Monroe Co. WV Research concerning Christian Peters, the founder of Peterstown, Monroe Co., WV, at the D.A.R. Library in Washington, DC, by David Clurman and Pete Ballard of Peterstown, WV, as published in a letter to the Editor of the Monroe Watchman, Union, WV: In 1793/94, Christian Peters kept "a house of private entertainment" on Rich Creek, evidently at his original settling place two miles east of Peters- town. This is stated in a letter by Capt. Hugh Caperton (of New River), dated December 17, 1794, to Gov. Robert Brooke of Virginia, wherein he asks the Governor to acknowledge and pay a receipt for "Rations" provided to Caperton and forty members of his militia when detained at Peters' place, prior to Feb. 14, 1793, for two weeks on account of bad weather while enroute to Kanawha.
