D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid, John Forehand aged fifty nine years, a resident of Monroe County in the State of Virginia who being sworn according to law declares that he is the identical John Forehand who was a private in the Company commanded by Captain Isaac T. Preston in the 35th Regiment of U. S. Infantry, commanded by Colonel Little in the war with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of June 1812, that he enlisted at Richmond Virginia on or about the 2nd day of August A. D. one thousand eight hundred and thirteen for the term of twelve months and continued in actual service in said war for the term of twelve months, and was honorably discharged at Craney Island , Va. on the 2nd day of August one thousand eight hundred and fourteen as will appear by his original certificate of discharge herewith presented or by the muster rolls of said Company. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which he may be entitled under the "act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the United States" paper September 28th 1850. his John X Forehand mark Sworn to and subscribed before me this day and year above written. And I hereby certify that I believe this said John Forehand to be the indentical man who served as aforesaid and that he is of the age above stated. Lewis E. Caperton, J. P. State of Virginia} Monroe County} Clerks Office Court I, John Hutchinson Clerk of the Court of Monroe County aforesaid do hereby certify that Lewis E. Caperton whose name is signed to the within certificate is and was at the time of signing the same, an acting Justice of the Peace in and for the said County of Monroe, duly commissioned and sworn, and that the foregoing signature purporting to be his is genuine. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the said Court at Union this 17th day of December 1850 & in the 75th year of the Commonwealth. John Hutchinson, C. M. C. 1855 Bounty Land Warrant Application of John Forehand State of Virginia} County of Monroe} On this 14th day of May A. D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace within and for the County aforesaid John Forehand aged about sixty five years, a resident of Greenbrier County in the State of Virginia lately of Monroe County Virginia, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical John Forehand who was a private in the Company commanded by Captain _____Hoffman in the ____ Regiment of Virginia Militia Commanded by (as well as he recollects) James McDowell in the war with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of June 1812 for the term of _____months and continued in actual service for fourteen days_ that he has heretofore made application for bounty land under the act of September 28 1850 and received a land warrant (No. _ not now recollected) for eight acres which he has since legally disposed of, and can not now return. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the additional bounty land to which he may be entitled under the act approved the 3rd day of March 1855. He also declares that he has never applied for nor received under this or any other act of Congress any bounty land warrant except the above mentioned. his John X Forehand mark We, Henry Alexander & John Hutchinson, residents of Monroe County in the State of Virginia upon our oath declare that the forgoing declaration was signed and acknowledged by John Forehand in our presence and that we believe from the appearance and statement of the applicant that he is the identical person he represents himself to be. And I certify that I know the affiants to be credible persons, that the claimant is the person he represents himself to be, and that I have no interest in this claim. M. McDaniel J. P.
