Old Woman Who Had Lived In Three Centuries Is Dead
    
She Left Behind Her 158 Descendants
 
         
Mrs. Nancy Arnott, probably the oldest resident of Monroe County, 
if not of the Sstate, died at the home of Mr. M.A. Ellison, her 
son-in-law, at Lillydale, on Friday morning last, Dec. 17, of 
paralysis.  She was between 101 and 104 years of age being born 
in the closing years of the 18th century.  She had therefore 
lived in three centuries, the 18th, 19th and 20th  --- a most 
extraordinary distinction.  Her life was almost coincident with 
that of Monroe county.  She was born Miss Nancy Raines and in 
her youth, about 83 years ago married Mr. Frederick Baker, to 
whom she bore eight children,, all of whom are dead except Mr. 
A. S. Baker, of Lillydale, the only son she had.  After the 
death of her first husband about 36 years ago, she married 
Mr. Henry Arnott,  It is now 30 years since he died.  She 
had no children by her second marriage.  The venerable lady 
is survived by 34 grandchildren (among them Dr. J.E. Roies 
of Union), 108 great-grandchildren, and  15 great- great-
grandchildren, nearly all of whom are living in this county.  
She was a good and useful woman in her days and generations, 
for many years a member of the M.E. Church, South. and leaves 
a heritage of precious memories to her descendents.  Mrs 
Arnott's facnities were well proserved considering her age, 
with the exveption of her hearing,  Her remains were interred 
in the Arnott family cemetery near Lillydale last Saturday 
evening, Rev.. L.B. Atkins conducting the services.  ----
