Mr. Beirne was in the in 34th year of his age, had been married upwards of two years and was in the enjoyment of every earthly comfort calculated to smooth the rugged path of life. By correctness in business, he had secured to imself the reputation of an unimpeachable character. He was esteemed by all of his acquaintances but those only who knew him intimately could properly appreciate his merits. In his death, the community in which he lived has sustained a loss that will be felt for many years. His concern for his future welfare and the perfect composure evinced in his last hours, together with other no less favorable circumstances justify the pleasing reflection tht he now rests from his labours. Never did the writer witness a more affecting scene than the one presented, when his wife and two small children, accompanied by his sister, entered the chamber to gaze in sadness upon that countenance which the spirit had just ceased to animate. Additional Comments: His wife, Frances Evelyn Smith Beirne, moved back to her father's home in Rockingham County, Virginia with her two children (Frances and Andrew Plunkett Beirne, Jr.) after the death of her husband.
