Will of John Soffer, 1813 - Monroe Co. WV excerpted from Monroe Co. Will Book One, page 220, dated 1813 IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMANE, I, John Soffer of the County of Monroe and State of Virginia being weak in body, but of sound memory, do make this my last will and testament in manner following, to wit, After the payment of all my just debts, I leave and bequeath to my son-in-law, Henry Doghartys' oldest son, Alexander Dogharty one half of my Plantation and to hold the old improvement as soon as he comes of age as his part, but in case of his death before he comes of age, it is to devolve to the next male heir of the said Henry Dogharty and Barbary, his wife, and in case no male heir should come to maturity, it is to devolve to the oldest female of the said Henry Dogharty and Barbary his wife. Item, I leave to Fanny Eads, my housekeeper (the other end of my Plantation whereon Henry Dogharty now lives to hold that improvement til her child (with which she is now pregnant) comes of age, then the said Fanny's child is to have possession and to give the said Fanny a separate maintainance if demanded, but in case her child should die before it comes of age, then the said Fanny is to have that improvement including thirty acres during her life and the said Alexander Dogharty in case of its death is to have the whole of the plantation. Item, I leave to my stepdaughter, Katharine Ungar, the following property vez her mother's beads and beadcloths, her spinning wheel, her mother's clothes, a pair of flat irons and twelve dollars in money to be paid out of personal estate when she comes of age. Item, I leave to Sally Soffer one dollar to be paid then out of my personal estate if demanded, and I appoint John Cottle and James Crawford both of Greenbrier County and state aforesaid my executors to execute this my last will in manner above mentioned.
