Mrs. Ella Gillispie Dies in Hospital A long-time Richwood resident, Mrs. Ella Gillispie, died Thursday, June 24, in Sacred Heart Hospital. Mrs. Gillispie suffered a light stroke some two months ago and took a turn for the worse on Monday and was admitted to the hospital the same day. However, she was active up until the time of her death and, as her daughter with whom she made her home, Mrs. Frank Hutt, said "Mom did the cooking at home and always kept busy even when she was sitting and resting. She enjoyed crocheting." Mrs. Gillispie and her late husband, who was better known as "Pop" Gillispie, came to Richwood in 1912 from Braxton County after they were married. He first worked at the tannery, then went to the big mill, and then held a job at the pin factory until he retired. However, he didn't like to be idle, so he got a job at the Richwood Trade School as janitor. He died in 1961. Mrs. Gillispie was very active in church work at the First United Methodist Church in Richwood where she was a member and also held a life membership in the Women's Society of Christian Service. She was active in her Sunday School class, attended church services regularly unless she was ill, and was always glad to lend a helping hand with a project in the church. She was described by one of the church members as being a wonderful person, and did much to carry on the work of the church. Mrs. Gillispie is survived by daughters, Mrs. Velma Johnson of Akron, Ohio, Mrs. Ollien Hutt of Richwood, Mrs. Helen Dilley of South Charleston; sisters, Mrs. Ruby Hudkins of Gassaway, Mrs. Macel Wilson of Cedarville, Mrs. Thelma Howell of Rochester, MI; brothers, Harry Utt of Flint MI, Dallas Utt of Atlanta, MI, and Oras of St. Clair Shores, MI, 10 granchildren and 18 great- grandchildren. Services were held Saturday June 26, at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home with the Rev. Rollo Matheny officiating. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery.
