Cox Ohio County Courthouse, Deed Book 63, p. 397-398: Transcribed by Laura Thomas, May 30, 1998 This Deed made the 31st day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Seventy five between James Cheek and Rebecca Cheek his wife both of Ohio County W. Va. parties of the first part and Louisa H. Cox of the same county and State of the second part: Witnesseth that in consideration of the sum of thirty three hundred and sixty one 86/100 Dollars the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged the said parties of the first part do grant unto the said party of the second part the following described property that is to say a certain piece of property lying in Ohio County bounded as follows. Beginning at a red oak on the right bank of Castleman's Run thence S. 603/4 W. 8 2/10 poles to a stone corner to Isaac Cox thence with his line N. 25 W. 31 9/10 p. to a stone: thence S.803/4 W. 42 4/10 p. to a stone thence N. 91/4 W. 24 p. to a hickory corner to said Cox thence N. 85 W. 41 3/10 p. to a stone: thence N. 38 p. to an Ironwood corner to John Atkinson's thence with his line N70 E. 96 4/10 to a stone near the North edge of Castleman's run then S. 531/4 E. 20 6/10 p. to a stone on bank near the road thence S. 601/2 E. 17 2/10 p. to a stone, thence S. 26 E. 25 1/10 p. to a sycamore thence S. 131/4 E. 16 p. to a stone thence S. 841/2 E. 5 1/10 p. to a stone in Saml. McCarty's line thence with his line S. 111/4 W. 31 p. to the beginning containing seventy five acres & 45 perches more or less saving & excepting from the above piece of land a certain tract heretofore conveyed by the said James Cheek & wife to Isaac Cox by a certain deed dated the 27" of July 1870 ____ on record in the Clerk's Office of the County Court of Ohio Co. in deed Book No. 58 p. 409 which said tract of land is bounded and described as follows: Commencing at a stone near a spring running between Isaac Cox & James Cheek and running N. 28° 25 p. to a stone thence W. 46 p. to a stone thence S. 88 W. 29 p, to a stone thence S. 4 p. to a stone thence S. 85 E. 41 p. to a hickory thence S. 10 E. 24 p. to a stone thence N. 781/2° 431/2 p. to the beginning corner, containing nine acres forty seven poles more or less; the property in the deed conveyed is the same heretofore deeded to James Cheek by William Reed & wife by deed dated the 7th of April 1870 Recorded on Book 57 folio 216.. And the said parties of the first part do hereby covenant with the said party of the second part that they will warrant generally the property hereby conveyed. Given under my hand this first day of June in the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy five. David Shorts J.P. State of West Virginia District of Liberty Ohio County to wit: I David Shorts Justice of the Peace do certify that Rebecca Cheek the wife of James Cheek whose names are signed to the writing hereto annexed bearing date on the first day of June in the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy five personally appeared before me in my District aforesaid and being duly examined by me privily and apart from her husband and having the writing aforesaid fully explained to her, she, the said Rebecca Cheek acknowledged the said writing to be her act and declared that she had willingly executed the same and does not wish to retract it.
