Nicholas Richardson, William Jones, George Webb and Timothy W. Bliss to William Wilson August 17, 1860 Sale of "Sunny South" Book 45 p. 217-218 Ohio County, West Virginia This Deed made this seventeenth day of August in the year eighteen hundred and sixty between Nicholas S. Richardson, William Jones, George Webb and Timothy W. Bliss of the one part and William Wilson of the other part all of the City of Wheeling and State of Virginia.Witnesseth that the said party of the first part do hereby grant unto the said party of the second part with covenants of general warranty the Steam boat "Sunny South" herewithin furniture tackle and equipment as she now lies at the Port of Wheeling the said Steamboat being enrolled at the Port of Wheeling and a copy of her said enrolment dated this day being hereto attached signed and sealed by the parties of the first part and made a part of this deed. The trust to secure the payment to Wilson Dunlevy & Co. of Wheeling of the sum of 3788.36 Dollars according to the tenor and effect of four several notes bearing date August 17 1860. The first for the sum of 940.50 dollars payable four months after date the second for 712.67 dollars payable five months after date the third for the sum of 940.59 dollars payable six months after date and the fourth for the sum of 940.60 dollars payable ten months after date and one note bearing date August 17 1860 for the sum of 253.91 dollars payable eight months after date; the payment to Sweeneys & Co. of Wheeling of the sum of 5447.98 dollars according to the tenor and effect of six several notes the first dated August 17 1860 payable one month after date for the sum of 570.45 dollars, the second dated August 17 1860 payable three months after date for the sum of 592.08 dollars the third dated August 17 1860 payable four months after date for the sum of 592.08 dollars and the fourth dated August 17 1860 payable five months after date for the sum of 1237.26 dollars, the fifth dated August 17 1860 payable seven months after date for the sum of 1228.05 dollars, and the sixth for the sum of 1228.06 dollars dated August 17 1860 payable nine months after date. The payment to Daves and Beam(note: not sure of spelling) of Wheeling of the sum of 1543.53 dollars according to the tenor and effect of three several notes bearing date August 17 1860 each for the sum of 514.57 dollars and payable the first at three, the second at six and the third at nine months after date. All of the said notes are signed by the said Nicholas Richardson for the Steamboat Sunny South and owners and were given for the building of said Boat! Also to secure the payment of three several insurance notes date August 16 1860 the first for 1011 dollars payable one year after date to the order of Wilson Dunlevy & Co. and by them endorsed the second payable one year after date to the order of Daves and Beam and by them endorsed for the sum of 1010 dollars and the third for the sum of 1201 dollars payable one year after date to the order of Sweeney and Co. and by there endorsed. Also to secure the payment of any note or notes which may hereafter be given by way of renewal of any of the above mentioned notes and to indemnify and save ____? the said Wilson Dunlevy & Co , Sweeney & Co. and Daves & Beam from all loss or damage as endorsed on the aforesaid insurance notes. Any sale of the said Steamboat made by virtue of this Deed may be for cash or for credit with good security or partly for cash and partly for credit with good security as the said trustee many deem most advantageous. And notice of any such sale may be given by advertisement published no less than thirty days prior thereto in some newspaper printed in the city of Wheeling or such other newspaper or newspapers as the trustee may deem best. And a sale may be adjourned from time to time without other notice than one proclamation made at the time and place appointed for selling from which the adjournment is made. The trustee may act by agent and attorney in the execution of this trust. The erasures in 1st page 18th line and 3rd page 9th line were made before signing. Jones parties to the foregoing deed of trust and acknowledged the same to be their act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned. Whereupon the same was admitted to record. Given under my hand and official seal the day and year above mentioned A.J. Parnell Surveyor of Customs Permanent Enrolment Enrolment in conformity to an Act of the Congress of the United States of America entitled "An Act for enrolling and licensing Ships or vessels to be employed in the Coasting trade and fisheries and for regulating the same, Nicholas S. Richardson of Wheeling having taken or subscribed the oath required by the said act, and having sworn that he owns ½ Wm Jones owns 3/16 Geo. Webb owns 1/8 and Timothy W. Bliss owns 3/16 are all of Wheeling Va citizens of the United States and sole owner of the ship or vessel called the Sunny south of Wheeling Whereof N.S. Richardson is at present master, and as where he hath sworn is a citizen of the United States and that the said ship or vessel was built at Wheeling Va in the year 1860 as appears by her certificate of admeasurement no. 72 dated and issued at Wheeling Va Aug 17 1860. And said certificate of admeasurement certified that the said ship or vessel has one deck and no mast and that her length is 155 feet her breadth 30 feet. her depth 6 feet 3 inches and that she measures two hundred and seventy 37/95 (270.37) tons and that she is a Steam Boat has transom stern Cabin on Deck and plain head. And the said N.S.
