Deed Book 46 Ohio County, West Virginia p. 228 March 2, 1863 Samuel G. Stevens and Joshua C. Wiley E 1/2 of west 1/2 lot no. 178 E. Wheeling This deed made this 2d day of March, 1863 between Samuel G. Stevens and Lucy Ann his wife of the city of Wheeling, County of Ohio and State of Virginia of the first part and Joshua C. Wiley of the City, County and State aforesaid of the second part witnesseth {word illegible} the said parties of the first part do grant unto the said parties of the second part in consideration of the sum of fifteen hundred dollars to the said first parties in hand paid by the said second party, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged. The following describe property or real estate situate in that part of the city of Wheeling commonly called East Wheeling and in the addition to said City laid off by Noah Zane and others and designated in said addition as lot number one hundred and seventy eight the said property or real estate hereby conveyed or intended so to be being the east half of the west half of said lot, and the same property which was conveyed to the said first party by Joseph Britt Sr. and Joseph D. Britt, a commissioner appointed by the Circuit court of Ohio County to convey the dower right of Mary wife the said Joseph Britt Sr. by deed dated the 12th day of January 1863, which said deed is admitted to record in the office of the Clerk of the County Court of Ohio county. The said parties of the first part do warrant generally the property herein conveyed witness the following signatures and seals. S. G. Steven. Lucy A. C. Stevens Virginia: Be it remembered that on the 7 day of March, 1863 the foregoing deed, dated Marcy 2 1863, was presented to me, John McColloch, Clerk of Ohio County Court, in my office and acknowledged therein by Samuel G. Stevens and Lucy Ann his wife, parties thereto the said Lucy Ann Stevens being examined by me, at the same time and place privily and apart from her husband and having the deed aforesaid fully explained where she the said Lucy Ann Stevens acknowledged the saidd eed to be her act... thereupon said deed was admitted to record March 10, 1863 Teste Jno.
