(Riggs) Holdren. The grandfather, Edmund Riggs, came from Maryland about the year 1810, and settled in Washington county, Ohio,and afterward removed to Tyler county, Va., where he died. Edmund Holdren was reared on a farm and educated in the common schools of Ohio. He was married to Mary E. Browse, daughter of Thomas and Eliza Browse, both natives of England, who came to Virginia in 1830. Mrs. Holdren was born and reared on the old homestead farm, where she now resides.
