According to information from the Wyoming State Tribune news desk, an unvented furnace was blamed for the carbon monoxide fumes which invaded the Nichols home at 310 McComb Avenue in Cheyenne sometime last Thursday (Sept. 18). M/Sgt, Nichols and another daughter, 13-month old Lisa, were admitted to the hospital as a result of the carbon monoxide poisoning, but have since been released, reports said. The coroner in Cheyenne ruled that the father and younger daughter escaped asphyxiation because they were in a different part of the home than the other children. Mrs. Nichols was not at home at the time of the accident, it was also reported. When M/Sgt. Nichols did not report for work at Warren Air Force Base Friday, friends came to check on the family and found them overcome with the fumes from the furnace around 11:00 a.m. Work had been done on the roof of the home and the vent to the furnace had not been hooked up again, it was reported. When the furnace came on during the night as the temperatures cooled, the noxious fumes poured in to the house. The coroner also ruled that the two little girls had died sometime Thurs- day night. Kimberly Ann was born in Korea on October 7, 1980, and Melinda Lenore was born at Cheyenne, Wyo. Sept. 11, 1982, to Barry B. Nichols and Tae O. Nichols, who survive.
