Oblinger was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Paden City and was a retired employee of teh Ormet Corp. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Korea, and a member of Post 86, The American Legion, and the Paden City Lions Club. He was born in Wheeling, a son of the late William and Kathryn Manning Oblinger. He is survived by his wife, Mona Oblinger; two sons, David Kent of Ellenboro, and Dean Oblinger of Paden City; three daughters, Denise Rogers, Dawn Shutler and Lisa Bidwell, all of Paden City; a sister, Eileen Resseger of New Martinsville; stepmother, Jane Oblinger of Proctor, W.Va.; and six grandchildren. He was born Aug. 23, 1940, in Chicago, Ill., a son of the late Kenneth and Wanda Luma O'Brien. He was a member of the Parkersburg Amateur Radio Club, Hams for Christ, had served with the U.S. Army, and was a self-employed upholstery and carpet cleaner. He is survived by his wife, Terry O'Brien; one son, Christopher O'Brien of Chicago, Ill.; one step daughter, Christie Smith at home; one sister, Karen Unger of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers, Ronald Kaskovich of Rockford, Ill., and Dennis Kaskovich of Wappingers Falls, N.Y. O'BRIEN Died April 15, 1993 Opal W. O'Brien, 80, of Lynn Street, Parkersburg, died Thursday at St. Joseph's Hospital after an extended illness. Mrs. O'Brien was a 1930 graduate of St Marys High School and a 1934 graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of St. Joseph's Hospital Alumni and St Margaret Mary Catholic Church. She was born in St Marys, a daughter of the late Walter and Eula Ann Belleville Riggs. She is survived by two sisters, Gladys Thompson of Belmont and Eula Fenton of Canton, Ohio; three brothers, Donzil Riggs and Wayne Riggs, both of Akron, Ohio and Floyd A. Riggs of Vienna; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis O'Brien, in 1969; and two brothers, Harry Riggs and Lawrence Riggs. Weis of Ashland, O. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph N. Ogdin, and one brother. OGDIN Died May 20, 1992 Former St. Marys Fire Chief Frank B. Ogdin Jr., 80, of St. Marys, died Wednesday at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital. Ogdin was a 1930 Williamstown High School graduate and attended Mountain State Business College. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and retired as the parts manager for Clovis Motor Co. He was a 50-year member of the St. Marys Volunteer Fire Department and had served as chief from 1959 to 1970. He was a member and past commander of Pleasants Post 79 American Legion. He also belonged to St. Marys Lodge 41 AF&AM and the Pleasants County Senior Citizens. He was born at Waverly, a son of the late Frank B. and Dottie Adams Ogdin. He is survived by two sons, Lee Ogdin of St. Marys and Lane Ogdin of Sterling, Va.; one sister, Caroline Carpenter of St. Marys; and three grand- children. OGDIN Died April 27, 1987 Oran C. Ogdin, 70, longtime owner of Ogdin Funeral Home in Parkersburg, and a native of St. Marys, died Monday in St. Joseph's Hospita1 after a short illness. He was born to the late Oran C. and Julia Davis Ogdin. The family moved to Parkersburg in 1926. Ogdin became a licensed funeral director and embalmer. He and Howard A. Hammett formed a partnership in 1948 with Ogdin as a senior partner and manager. He was a longtime member of St Andrew's United Methodist Church and served on various boards. He was a volunteer member of the Selective Service Board in Wood County for a number of years, served as chairman of the Wood County March of Dimes for more than 10 years and was an associate member of Blennerhassett Lodge 3 of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a 1934 graduate of Parkersburg High school, a 1939 graduate of Marietta College and a 1940 graduate of the Cincinnati College of Embalming. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was honorably discharged with the rank of captain. He was a member of Mount Olivet Masonic Lodge 3, Parkersburg Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, a past Watchman of the Shepherd, Bethany No. 4, White Shrine of Jerusalem, York Rite Bodies and Nemesis Temple of the Shrine. He was a longtime member of the downtown Parkersburg Kiwanis Club, American Legion Post 15, Parkersburg BPO Elks 198, the National, West Virginia and Little Kanawha Funeral Directors associations, and Associated Funeral Directors Service International. He is survived by his wife, Gail Kirk Ogdin; three sons, Michael R. He was a long time member of St. Marys United Methodist Church where he had served as treasurer for more than 20 years and was a Sunday School teacher. After graduation, he taught higher math for more than 40 years in Ritchie and Pleasants counties. While teaching at St. Marys High School he sponsored the Mu Alpha Theta chapter. Walter Keith Overgaard of Rt. 2, city, died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Mercy Hospital at Pittsburgh as a result of injuries sustained in a two vehicular accident Friday, about 30 miles south of Pittsburgh. The Oovergaards were enroute to Washington., D.C. when an ambulance went out of control, crossed the median and collided with the Cougar vehicle driven by Overgaard. Both Mr. and Mrs. and Mrs. Overgaard were taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital. He was suffering from a brain concussion and chest injuries. Mrs. Overgaard received facial cuts and abrasions. Overgaard was graduated n 1964 from Lehigh University with a BS in metallurgical engineering and was employed in the metals division at Olin. Mrs. Overgaard is the former Ruthie Smith. They were married May 27, 1967. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Silcott Overton; and by a brother. ----------------------------------------------------------------- "Oracle" - August 26, 1983 CAROLYN OWENS Died August 22, 1983 A Monday morning traffic accident on Route 68 near North Hills in Wood County claimed the life of Carolyn Owens, 40, of Rt. 3, St. Marys. Mrs. Owens was northbound when her car collided head-on with a southbound tractor-trailer shortly after 10:00 a.m. The accident occurred at the intersection of Route 68 (formerly Rt. 2) and Willard Road. Mrs. Owens was driving a late model Chrysler New Yorker, and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported in the accident. Danny Nicodemus was listed as the driver of the Continental Food Services tractor-trailer which was involved in the accident. He said he crested the hill on Route 68 when he saw the Owens car traveling over the center line in the road. Nicodemus said he was making his last delivery of the day to Vienna when the accident occurred. The truck was forced into a roadside ditch after hitting the car. Mrs. Owens car was demolished in the head-on crash. Carolyn Sue Owens was born in Parkersburg on June 16, 1943, a daughter of Clifford and Virgie Miller Rogers, Rt. 3, St. Marys, who survive. She was a member of the Willow Island Baptist Church and a former employee of the Internal Revenue Service at Parkersburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto A. Owens, in 1994, and one brother Robert Cunningham. Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Rutlencutter-Ingram Funeral Home in St. Marys with the Rev. OWENS Died December 26, 1998 Raymond E. Owens, 61, of Belmont, died Dec 26, at his residence. He was born April 25, 1937, in Wilson County, N.C. He was retired from the former Colin Anderson Center in St. Marys and had worked previously with Meijer Department Store in Findlay, O. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in St. Marys. He is survived by his wife, Johnnie Barnes Owens; two daughters, Deloris Owens and Sandra Owens, both of North Carolina; one son, Jeffrey Owens of North Carolina; three stepdaughters, Patricia Zacarias of Findlay and Vernice Simonton and Renee Lamp, both of St. Marys; one step-son, John Barnes of St. Marys; one foster daughter, Donna Norris of Belmont; 11 grandchildren; one sister, Ellen Sutton of Wilson, N.C.; one brother, Carl Owens of Wilson, N.C., and several nieces and nephews. Burial was in St. Marys IOOF Cemetery. ----------------------------------------------------------------- "Sentinel" - November 4, 1996 ROY GLEN OWENS Died November 1, 1996 Funeral services will be Wednesday for longtime newspaperman Roy Glen Owens, 75, of Sistersville, who died Friday at Cleveland Clinic. Owens was manager of the high school newspaper and president of his 1939 graduating class in Tyler County. He received a bachelor's degree in journalism in 1949 from West Virginia University. While at WVU he was business manager of The Daily Athenaeum, the student newspaper. He was employed by the Tyler County Journal for two years. He was publisher and editor of The St. Marys Oracle for 38 years and was publisher of the Pleasants County Leader and the Pennsboro News. He served as president of the West Virginia Press Association and was a honorary life member of the organization. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Sistersville, and served as a clerk of session for First Presbyterian Church of St. Marys. He was born in Parkersburg, a son of the late Cordie B. and Nina Doak Owens. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Demkovich Owens; one daughter, Barbara Owens of Philadelphia; one son, Jerry Owens of Pittsburgh; one sister, Martha Lee Ankrom of Vienna; and two grandchildren. Petersburg, Fla., died at the home of her son, John Oxley of St. Petersburg, Tuesday afternoon. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, a daughter of the late Clyde S. and Nora Beaver Paynter. She was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church, Defiance, Ohio, and retired in 1981 as a teacher from the Defiance School System. She was a member of the Ohio Education Association and was a volunteer at the Defiance Hospital. She is survived by one daughter, Janet Hansen of Lauder Hill, Fla.; four granddaughters, Michelle Oxley and Nora Oxley, both of Sarasota, Fla., Erin Oxley of St. Petersburg and Leslie Hansen of Columbus, Ohio.
