Mr. Paff, 66, of 5213 Pioneer Drive, Cross Lanes, had taught in the West Virginia school system for 38 years. A native of Allentown, Mr. Paff was a member of the Nitro Masonic Lodge York and Scottish Rite bodies and Beni Kedem Shrine Temple. He was a member of the Shrine Gold Band. Surviving are his wife, Edna Cornell Paff, a teacher at Nitro Junior High School and also a former teacher of this city; sons, William David Paff of Albuquerque, NM and John Cornell Paff, a student at W.V.U., and a daughter, Mrs. Robert Clubb of Portsmouth, VA. Died: 21 Nov 1986 Elizabeth A. Palm, 74, of 5110 N. 26th Street, Arlington, Virginia, died at her home Friday, November 21 [1986]. She was born April 5, 11912, in St. Marys, a daughter of the late George Dexter Stout II and Carrie Lee Curtis Stout. She was a retired kindergarten teacher in the Arlington County Public Schools in Virginia and was a member of the memorial Baptist church, Arlington. She is survived by one sister, Rhea K. Morford, Arlington; one brother Frank C. Stout; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 24, at the memorial Baptist Church, 3455 N. Glebe rd. Arlington, VA. Interment was in the National Memorial park, Falls Church, VA. Arlington Funeral Home, 3901 N. Fairfax Drive, Arlington, was in charge of arrangements. He was born at Parkersburg to Clement L. and Lelia Wagoner Parr. He attended Parkersburg schools and had completed a course in higher accounting with La Salle Extension University of Chicago, Ill. A US Navy veteran of World War II, he had served as quartermaster. Prior to the war, he was employed by Northrup Equipment and the B & O railroad. He returned to Parkersburg, where he worked as a sales manager at Parkersburg Ice and Fuel. He assumed management of Belpre Building Materials Co in 1956. Prior to his retirement in 1986, he was employed by IDS Financial Services. He was active in civic affairs and had served as the first president of Lincoln School Parent Teachers Association. He was also one of the organizers of Little League baseball in Parkersburg. He was a member of Mount Olive Masonic Lodge 3, York Rite and Scottish Rite Bodies, Nemesis Shrine, the American Legion post at Belpre and First Methodist Church of Parkersburg. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mabel Stoops Parr; two sons, Mark Parr of Loveland, OH and Nathan L. Penrose, 79, 428 Fifth St., Marietta, died Saturday [25 Sep 1988] at Marietta Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Marietta, a son of the late Dr. James Binton and Maria Woodbridge Gallaher Penrose. He was a sixth generation direct descendant of Judge Dudley Woodbridge, who came to Marietta in the fall of 1788. A direct descendant Woodbridge has lived in Marietta since that time. Following attendance at Marietta public schools and graduation from Marietta College College [sic] in 1930, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity, he worked for New York Life Insurance Co. in Los Angles. He also had been executive secretary for Boy Scouts of America in Texas and Oklahoma and entered the U.S. Army Air Force on Nov. 10, 1942. After European service as a pilot in World War ii, he returned to Marietta, where he became executive secretary of the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce from 1946 to 1962. During this period, the chamber grew to its largest membership of more than 900 members. He also was instrumental in bringing the Mid-American Rowing Regatta to Marietta in the 1950's. In 1960, he associated with John Hock Realtor and later with Walter J. McCarthy Realty, from 1979 until his retirement on Jan. 1, 1969, as chief warrant officer (W-3). With other area personnel, he served 11 months of active duty during the Berlin Callup of 1961. He was actively associated with many organizations, often in leadership roles including American Union Number 1, F & AM; American Union Number 1, RAM; Scottish Rite-Valley of Cambridge; Aladdin Temple of Columbus; Marietta Shrine Club; Council No 78, R&SM; Marietta Commandery No. 50, Knights Templer; Marietta YMCA; Friends of the Museum; Friends of the Washington County Public Library; Rotary International; Elks Lodge 477; American Legion Post 64; and Delta Upsilon fraternity. He had served on the board of directors of the local American Red Cross and of Marietta memorial Hospital. He served as secretary of the bicentennial preplanning committee with Dr. Merrill Patterson, B. Gates Dawes and Lillian Cisler. He is survived by his wife, Garnet Haston Penrose, whom he married Aug. 20, 1940; two sons, David H. Penrose of Denver, Col., and John M. She was born in St. Marys, the daughter of the late Grover I. and Julia Poynter Powell. She was the widow of Edwin Martin McCullough, who preceded her death in March 1981. She attended St. Mary's High School and Radford College in Virginia. She was a member of the Ward Parkway Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Missouri. She lived in St. Marys, Kansas City, Pennsville, NJ, prior to moving to Oxford, PA in 1995. She was a homemaker caring for children. She also did legal secretarial work and earned a real estate license. She enjoyed art classes and all types of music. Surviving relatives are one daughter, Judy Smith, wife of Ron Smith of Kennett Square, PA; two sisters, June Cumblidge of St. Marys and Lora Hardy of Pennsville, NJ; two granddaughters, Kathryn and Karen Smith. The services were Saturday at the First Baptist Church in St. Marys. Interment was at the IOOF Cemetery, St. Marys immediately following the service. MILLARD F Died 29 Jul 1927 To chronicle a death at any time, and under any circumstances is a task not to the liking of anyone, but is made doubly hard, when the person who answers the final summons, is a personal friend, and yet this is one of the many duties that fall to the lot of newspaper folks. We are called upon this week to report the death of Rev. Millard F. Pritchard, our friend, and former pastor, whose death occurred, Friday evening, 8:30, at his home in Eastview, Clarksburg, where he was serving as pastor of the Hammond Methodist Episcopal Church. Rev. Prichard, had undergone a serious operation at Mason Hospital a few months ago, but had apparently completely recovered and while visiting her recently, remarked that he enjoyed better health than usual. A few days prior to his death he complained of his heart and steadily grew worse, until the Master's finger touched him and he sleeps. He was born at Pullman, Ritchie County, Seventy years ago; and for the past forty-five years had been an active minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He served the local church two years prior to his going to Clarksburg and his friends were many, regardless of church affiliation. The widow, Mrs. Belle Pritchard, two sons, Enoch D of Hundred; Ernest M., of Clarksburg; and three daughters, Mrs. J. A. Miller of Caldwell, Idaho; Mrs. S. H. Allen, of Wallace; and Mrs. A. Rexroad of St. Marys, survive. Frank Pritchard, prominent citizen of Pullman, this county, is a brother. The funeral was held, from the Hammond M. E. Church, Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, by Rev. His death was due to paralysis. He had suffered a stroke some time ago from the effects of which he partially recovered. About two weeks ago he was again stricken and fell upon the street while about his work. He was carried home and never rallied from this attack. Mr. Proper was born in Venango County, Pa, January 20th 1865, being in his 61st year at the time of his death. He embarked in the oil business when a young man and followed that hazardous pursuit thru life in the capacity of both producer and drilling contractor. At one time he had valuable production in this county. For the past several years he confined his operations to the Kentucky fields where his investments did not prove profitable. A couple of years ago he sold his home and lots in this city to the County Court and moved to Marietta. He is survived by his wife and six children, two daughters, Mrs. Zora Everly, East Liverpool; Pauline, at home; and four sons, Vernard, Akron; Lester, Saint Marys; and Harold and Gail at home. She was born May 17, 1924, in Pleasants county to the late George Anna and Lewis Bell. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Church at Rock Run and a graduate of St. Marys High School. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse and worked in that capacity for many years. She is survived by one son, Jimmy Gardner of California; and one sister, Frances Whaley Dimit of Newport. She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
