Bailey/Bailey Deed, 1871 Deed: John Bailey to Booker Bailey, 1871 Recorded in the Raleigh County Clerk's Office, Beckley WV. Deed Book C Page 12. This deed made this 4th day of January 1871 between John B. Bailey and Sarah his wife of the first part and Booker Bailey of the 2nd part all of the County of Raleigh and State of West Virginia. Witnesseth that the said parties of the first part in consideration that the party of the second part shall take care of provide and maintain the parties of the first part during their natural lives and in further consideration of one dollar to them in hand paid by the party of the 2nd part, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged. The said parties of the first part doth grant unto the party of the 2nd part the following described tracts of land, lying and being in said county, and being situate on the Turnpike Road leading from Raleigh Court House to the Marshes of Coal. First tract beginning on said Turnpike Road at the branch near Alexander Evans' place and near John Stanley's and running up said branch with said Stanley's line to Beckley's old Patent Line and with the same to a corner to the said Booker Bailey's tract of land. Thence with said Booker Bailey's line to two white-oaks corner of said John B. Bailey and John Cook. Thence with John B. Bailey's old line to the beginning, including all the land embraced and owned by said John B. Bailey in his old tract, supposed to contain about fifty-five acres, more or less. 2nd tract beginning at a white-oak and dogwood on a line formerly of More and Beckley and corner to John Williams and with a line of John B. Bailey N 80, E 123 poles to a white-oak on a line of John B. Bailey's. Thence N 28, E 19 poles to John Williams line and with said line S 43, W 123 poles to the beginning containing by survey thirty-three and three fourths acres, less about 3 3/4 acres heretofore conveyed to John Stanley the boundary of which is embraced in the above described tract, to have and to hold the said tracts of land him and his heirs forever. Bailey and Sarah his wife whose names are signed to the above writing bearing date on the 4th day of January 1871 personally appeared before me in my county and township aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be their act and deed, and the said Sarah Bailey being examined by me separately and apart from her said husband and having the writing aforesaid fully explained to her, declared that she had willingly signed the same without any compulsion on the part of her said husband and does not wish to retract it.
