Widow's Pension of Dorcas Abbott Burnside, 1890 - Raleigh Co. WV State of West Virginia, County of Raleigh, ss: On this 23 day of February, A.D. one thousand nine hundred and one, personally appeared before me a Notary Public, within and for the County and State aforesaid, Dorcan Burnside, aged 77 years, a resident of Dry Creek County of Raleigh, State of W.Va, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of Andrew S. Burnside, who enlisted under the name of Andrew S. Burnside, on the (Blank) day of (Blank) , A.D. 18__, as a Private in Company 26, in the 7th Regiment of the West Virginia Volunteers, and served at least ninety days in the late War of the Rebellion, in the service of the United States, who was HONORABLY DISCHARGED August 1st 1865 and died on the 9th day of Dec. 1900. That he was never employed in the military or naval service otherwise that as stated above. That he was never employed in the military or naval service of the United States after the (Blank) day of August, 1861. That she was married under the name of Dorcas Abbott to said Andrew S. Burnside, on the 8th day of May , A.D. 1845, by Rev. Jack Keaton at Monroe Co. Ca. (now W.Va), there being no legal barrier to such marriage; that she had not be previously married; that her said husband had not be previously married. Neither of us had been previously married. That she has not remarried since the death of the said Andrew S. Burnside. That she is without other means of support than her daily labor. That the names and dates of birth of all the children of the soldier, now living, and under sixteen years of age, are as follows: No Children under 16 years of age. That she has not abandoned the support of any one of her children, but that they are still under her care or maintenance. That (Blank) prior application for pension has been filed by herself or the soldier (Blank). That she makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension-roll of the United States, under the provisions of the act of June 27, 1890. She hereby appoints, with full power of substitution and revocation, WILLIAM E> MORRIS, of Washington, D.C., her true and lawful attorney to prosecute her claim, the fee to be Ten Dollars, payable as prescribed by law.
