Born March 13, 1913, in Fayetteville, she was the daughter of the late Haden Shockey and Sarah Jane Martin Shockey. Mrs. Broach was a housewife and member of Fayetteville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas N. Broach; a daughter, Patsy J. Johnson; three brothers, John, Dennis and Walter Shockey; and three sisters, Annie Bennett, Lena Holstein and Patty Nugen. Survivors include a son, Thomas N. Broach Jr. and wife, Doris, of Oak Hill; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Forren Marion Drewry Forren, 82, of 904 Woodlawn Ave., Beckley, formerly of Hinton, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at her home following a long illness. Born Dec. 19, 1917, in Clifton Forge, Va., she was the daughter of the late William White and Edna Cahoon Drewry. Mrs. Forren was a former employee of Raleigh General Hospital, where she served as business manager in the 1950s. She was also a member of the Hinton Woman's Club and a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Hinton, where she held several church offices and was an active member of the Addie Gooch Sunday School Class. She was currently a member of the United Methodist Temple of Beckley. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Harry Brown Forren, on Sept. 13, 1993; a son, Randall Wayne Forren, on Oct. 17, 1958; six brothers, Lawrie, William, Ralph, Carl, W. Norman and Howard Drewry; a sister, Anna D. Boerner. Survivors include her only daughter and her husband, Janet and Michael Halstead of Beckley, with whom she made her home; a loving granddaughter, Bethany Lynn Turner; two stepgrandsons, Erie A. Halstead and Jason M. Halsted and his wife, Rachel; two stepgreat-grandsons, Eric Michael and William Hunter Halstead, all of Beckley; a loving sister, Lois A. Drewry of Clifton Forge, Va. "Kitty" Schuman Gentry, formerly of Wyoming County, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, in the Highsmith-Rainey Hospital. Mrs. Gentry was born in West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Hugo Schuman and Evelyn Stewart Schuman. Mrs. Gentry was a counselor for an employment agency. Born July 2, 1928, at Abraham, he was the son of the late Charlie Kincaid and Lora Plumley Kincaid. Mr. Kincaid was a retired farmer and attended the New Salem Baptist Church at Abraham. He was a lifelong resident of Abraham. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dollie and Lillian Kincaid; and two brothers, Bobby and Jessie Kincaid. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Bartley; her second husband, James S. Matney; and a grandson, James "Bucky" Bartley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn M. Redden Smith, on Aug. 19, 1992; and two brothers, Lonnie and Okey Smith. Smith SEBRING, Fla. - Gerald Steven Smith, formerly of Oak Hill, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, in the Heartland Medical Center, Sebring, following a lengthy illness with muscular dystrophy. Born Aug. 29, 1941, at Oak Hill, he was the son of the late Roby Grat and Gola Myrtle McLain Smith. Mr. Smith was a retired installer/repairer for Bell Atlantic in Washington, D.C. He was a member of the Sebring Community First Church of God, and served as treasurer of the church for several years. In 1960 he was a graduate of Collins High School in Oak Hill. He was a Vietnam era Air Force veteran, and a member of the American Legion in Sebring. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jesse Greene and Mary Margaret Shreve McLain of Oak Hill; and his paternal grandparents, James Elmer and Ardelia Carter Smith of Princeton. Mrs. Stewart was a homemaker and had been a resident of Oceana for the past 30 years. She attended the Matheny United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Harold Taylor; her father-in-law, Ralph Stewart; and a nephew, Dennis Taylor. Born Oct. 14, 1906, at Greentown, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Toliver and Josephine Hawkins Toliver. Ms. Toliver was a custodian at C&P Telephone Co. in Oak Hill with 42 years of service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church at Greentown, where she also served in the church choir and served as Sunday school superintendent. She was also a member of the Pioneer Club with C&P Telephone Co. She was preceded in death by 14 brothers and sisters. Survivors include her caregiver, Norma "Toots" Christian of Greentown; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
