Adkins PINEVILLE - Shirley Ann Adkins, 62, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at the residence of her daughter, Carol Church of Keyrock, following a long illness. Born April 24, 1937, in Marianna, she was the daughter of the late Pete and Mable Hash Sweet. Mrs. Adkins was a homemaker, a member of Pineville Church of God and a lifelong resident of Wyoming County. Survivors include two daughters, Carol Church of Keyrock and Ila Adkins of Pineville; four sons, Matthew Adkins and Herbert Dale Adkins, both of Pineville, Ricky Adkins of Richmond, Va., and Roger A. "Buck" Adkins of Turkey Creek; a brother, Joe Hash of Glen Daniel; and three grandchildren, Timmy Adkins, Mitchell Church and Tiffany Adkins. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Pineville Church of God with Sister Veatrice Staton officiating. Burial will follow in Privett Cemetery, Keyrock. Archer Jr. PHOENIX - John David Archer Jr., 41, died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at his home following a short illness. Born July 13, 1958, in Crane, Ind., he was the son of John David and Mary Belle Bolen Archer of Arcanum, Ohio. Mr. Archer spent most of his life in Arcanum, and in the past seven years he lived in Phoenix. He was a graduate of Arcanum High School and received an associate s degree from the University of Dayton, Ohio. He was a postal worker for the U.S. Postal Service in Versailles, Ohio, and Phoenix, and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jim and Pearl Bolen; his paternal grandfather, Brady V. Archer; and two uncles, Elbert Bolen and Oakey Meadows. Other survivors include a brother, Jimmy Archer of Arcanum; a sister, Vickey Lynn Hockey of Camden, Ohio; and his paternal grandmother, Maude E. Archer of Christiansburg, Va. Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with Dr. Dan Janutolo officiating. Burial will follow in Jenny Cole Cemetery, Odd. Irma Belle Ballengee RAINELLE - Irma Belle Ballengee, 84, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, in Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a long illness. Born Nov. 13, 1915, in Runa, she was the daughter of the late Irvin and Lelia Humphries Amick. Mrs. Ballengee had previously been a resident of Heartland of Rainelle, a resident of Rainelle most of her life, a member of Sewell Valley Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin "Red" Ballengee, in 1970; two sisters, Carrie Tuck and Leathel Fitzwater; and a brother, Teddy Amick. Survivors include three daughters, Martha Jane Lewis of Morgantown, Ind., Carol Ann Casteel of Destin, Fla., and Janet Estep of Chilhowie, Va.; a son, Charles Tuck of Cochran, Ga.; a sister, Marylene Rountree of Greensboro, N.C.; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Parrish Hamilton, 96, of Beckley, formerly of Scarbro, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at Heartland of Beckley following a short illness. Born Jan. 13, 1904, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Luvinia Pyatt Parrish. Mrs. Hamilton was a homemaker. She was a member of Scarbro Baptist Church, the Ladies Circle, ABW and the Methodist Ladies Fellowship, and was a former member of Scarbro Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Ham-ilton Sr., on Dec. 11, 1997; and a son, Harold Hamilton. Survivors include a son, Charles W. Hamilton Jr. and his wife, Rosalie, of Durham, N.C.; three daughters, Helen Davis and her husband, Franklin O., of Beckley, Joy Thomas and her husband, Jim, of Green Bank and Joan Taylor and her husband, Bill, of Beckley; a sister, Cora Wotring of Mount Hope; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Miller IKES FORK - Dottie Charlene Miller, 62, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at a Charleston hospital following a brief illness. Born June 12, 1937, at North Spring, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Helen Haney Shannon. Mrs. Miller was a graduate of Marshall University, a retired school teacher, having taught at Huff Consolidated Elementary, and was affiliated with the Baptist faith. Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Huey Miller; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Robin) Gobel II of St. Albans; two grandchildren, Robert "Bear" Gobel III and Shannon Gobel, both of St. Albans; her mother-in-law, Irene Miller of Hanover; a sister-in-law, Joyce Morgan and her husband, Arble, of Ikes Fork; two brothers-in-law, Doncie Miller and his wife, Earnestine, of Hanover and Denny "Doody" Miller and his wife, Valerie, of Clear Fork; and two special friends, Genevieve and Bob Dewese of Ikes Fork. Plasha, 78, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at his home following a short illness. Born Jan. 13, 1922, in Kingston, he was the son of the late George and Ann Cehelnik Plasha. Mr. Plasha was a retired coal miner, having worked for New River Co., Siltex Mine, Mount Hope. He was a member of Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene and the United Mine Workers of America. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, having received the Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Nicholls Plasha, on Dec. 10, 1997; a daughter, Sharon Kay Plasha; and three brothers, Steve, Henry G. "Hank" and Mike Plasha. Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca Rae Plasha of Oak Hill and Bonnie Gay Plasha of Shady Spring; two brothers, Frank Plasha of Erie, Pa., and Tom Plasha of Roanoke, Va.; and a sister, Thelma Sprouse of Welch. "Trudy" Van Puffelen, 79, died at 530 a.m. Friday, March 31, 2000, at her home. Born Dec. 5, 1920, in Sioux Center, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Gertrude Boxen Vandenbosch. Mrs. Van Puffelen was the dean of women at Appalachian Bible College, Bradley. She married John H. Van Puffelen on Aug. 17, 1944, in Grand Rapids, Mich. Mrs. Van Puffelen had been a resident of Kosciusko County, Ind., for the past five years and was a member of Pleasant View Bible Church, Warsaw, Ind. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include her husband, John H. Van Puffelen; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Darlene) Klose of Albany, N.Y.; two sons, David Van Puffelen of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Richard Van Puffelen of Warsaw, Ind.; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Born Oct. 12, 1913, in Mossy, he was the son of the late Joseph Otis and Mary Burnside Smith. Mr. Smith was a retired Fayette County Board of Education school bus driver with 13 years of service. He was a member of Mossy Church of God. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Smith and C. Reed Smith.
