Register Herald Obituaries for April 6, 2000 Kimberly D. Birchfield MATHENY - Kimberly Dawn Dishmon Birchfield, 28, and unborn child, of Matheny, was murdered Sunday, April 2, 2000, at her home. Born Nov. 6, 1971, in Beckley, she was the daughter of Jimmy and Naomi Stewart Dishmon of Matheny. Mrs. Birchfield was a homemaker. She was of the Methodist faith, a lifelong resident of Wyoming County and a graduate of Oceana High School. She was preceded in death by a niece, Natasha Sunset Hudgins. Other survivors include three sons, Fred Allen Birchfield III, Jeffrey Blake Birchfield and Harley David Birchfield, all at home; her husband, Fred Allen Birchfield II; four sisters and three brothers, Jimmy Lee Dishmon of Oceana, Leisha Dishmon of Honolulu, Loria Farruggia of MacArthur, Mark Dishmon of Huntsville, Ala., Sheila Dishmon of Matheny, Rhonda Hudgins of Hamilton, Ohio, and Paul Dishmon; six nephews; and four nieces. Cales Sr., 59, of Beckley, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at his home following a short illness. Born March 31, 1941, in Sandstone, he was the son of the late Russell and Sadie Ward Cales. Mr. Cales was a retired highway technician. After working 20 years for the West Virginia Turnpike, he retired in 1996. He was a member of Grace and Truth Ministries, Coal City. He also attended Grassy Meadows Gospel Lighthouse with Pastor Butch LeGrand. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Russell; and a sister, Edna Marie. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Christine Savino Cales; two sons, Jerry G. Cales Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Crab Orchard and Christopher M. Cales and his wife, Barbara, of Daniels; a daughter, Marilyn K. Donald Ray Farley NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Donald Ray Farley, 49, formerly of Cool Ridge, died Friday, March 31, 2000, at his home following a short illness. Born Oct. 16, 1950, in Cool Ridge, he was the son of Emerson Farley of Greensboro, Md., and the late Evelyn Crews Farley. Mr. Farley was a welder and a Nashville resident for the past two years. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Farley, in 1990. Other survivors include five children, Corey, Timothy, Christina, Shelly and Amanda; a brother, Jerry Farley of Nashville; three sisters, Andrea Lamb of Greensboro, Md., Reva DiMattie of Pasadena, Md., and Karen of Baltimore; his best friend, James Swan of Nashville; and three grandchildren. Henderson Robert Lee Henderson, 40, of 484 Lower Sandlick Road, Glen Daniel, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at his home following a sudden illness. Born Aug. 3, 1959, in Marlinton, he was the son of James Ezra and Catherine Reed Henderson of Glen Daniel. Mr. Henderson was an automobile mechanic. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert L. Henderson II; and three brothers, James Jr., Jerry Estel and Joseph "Joey" Henderson. Other survivors include four daughters, Heather of Seth, Breezie of North Carolina and Donya and Katherine, both of Sylvester; a son, Robert L. Hudson Sr. HINTON - John Walter Hudson Sr., 41, of 205 8th Ave., died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at his home following a short illness. Born Aug. 11, 1958, in Hinton, he was the son of Walter Earl Hudson of Hinton and the late Allene Hostetter Hudson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tena Marie Brink Hudson, in 1998. Other survivors include three sons, Justin Grey, John Walter Jr. and Derik T. Hudson, all at home; a half brother, Stephen Hudson of Raleigh, N.C.; his mother and father-in-law, Billy and Bonnie Melvin of Princeton; a sister-in-law, Tammy Thomas of Bluewell; and a cousin, Jessica Melvin of Princeton. Hypes Katherine Hope Hypes, 88, of Daniels, formerly of Victor, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Katherine was the daughter of the late Paul Ruloff Sr. and Birdie Ruloff of Victor. Mrs. Hypes was a member of Sunday Road Baptist Church and attended Clifty Methodist Church, both in Hico. She also was a member of the Ansted Chapter of the Eastern Star. Katherine was a retired teacher, having received her degree from Glenville State College at the age of 46. She taught at various Fayette County schools, including Legg School, which was the final one-room school in Fayette County. Her life was the source of numerous stories in area newspapers and she had work published in books by Dennis Deitz and Maxine Scarbro. She loved teaching and children. If the value of a person's life can be measured by the number of people whose lives they have touched in a positive way during their brief time on earth, then Katherine's life is beyond measure. She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Griffin; two brothers, Harry and Paul Ruloff; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Hypes; a son-in-law, Walter Carte Jr. Her precious husband, William Stanley Sr., preceded her in death in 1982, having shared 49 years together as they raised their family near Hico. Survivors include their family of six children: two sons, William Stanley Hypes Jr. and his wife, Anna, of Claremont, N.C., and Walter Lowell Hypes and his wife, Linda, of Hico; four daughters, Juanita Carte of Hico, Eula Ewing and her husband, Ed, of Hico, Helen Headlee and her husband, Ross, of Baton Rouge, La., and Mary Robertson and her husband, Jack, of Daniels, with whom she made her home; her beloved grandchildren: Hansford Carte and his wife, Tammy, Eddie Ewing and his wife, Sherry, Terry Rose and her husband, Bill, Greg Ewing and his wife, Mixis, Joey Hypes and his wife, Sonya, Mary Gill, Billy Hypes and his wife, Tracie, George Gugich and his wife, Tonya, Karen Gugich, Mary Beth Gugich and her husband, Steve, John Gugich, Lisa Crist and her husband, Lee, and David Robertson; her great-grandchildren: Shelby Carte, Eddie Lee Ewing, Jamie Davis, William Rose, Gregory Ewing, Michael and Samantha King, Joseph Hypes and Candace White, George and Melise Gugich and Ilana Gugich; great-great-grandchild, Juliet Zimmerman; her dear friends, Leona Ward and Grace Sedlock of Hico; her sister-in-law, Sally Hypes of Victor; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jacob M. May Jacob Michael May, 41, of Beckley, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at a Beckley area hospital following a long illness. Born Jan. 2, 1959, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Jacob L. May and Roseann Reed Morran, both of Pittsburgh. Mr. May was a retired U.S. Marine with 21 years of service and was awarded the Navy Achievement and Navy Comendation Medal. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church, Beckley. He was a pastor for three years and preached the word of God for 19 years. He loved the Lord and was an adament soul winner. Other survivors include his wife, Crystal Kirschmann May; two daughters, Charity Lynn May and Faith Ann May, both at home; his stepmother, Joyce Ann Yokim of Pittsburgh; his stepfather, Tom Morran of Pittsburgh; two brothers, David May of California and Matthew May of Pittsburgh; and four sisters, Ellen Kirsopp of Pennsylvania, Eilleen May of Pennsylvania, Sherry Koehler of California and Heather Wise of Pennsylvania. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor David Trump officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Born Nov. 1, 1915, in Alderson, she was the daughter of the late James Everett and Cleo Thomas Lemons. Mrs. Parker was a lifelong resident of Monroe and Greenbrier counties. She and her husband of 68 years, Millard Price Parker, jointly managed Family Farm Operations and Properties. She was a member of Flat Mountain Missionary Baptist Church, Alderson, where she served as teacher, church clerk, treasurer and pianist. Mrs. Parker served as treasurer for the American Baptist Women of the Greenbrier Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard Parker, on Dec. 3, 1999. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Ann Parker of Alderson and Josephine Parker Johnson and her husband, James, of Alderson; a grandson, Dr. James B. Johnson II and his wife, Elaine, of Richmond, Va.; a granddaughter, Cathy Ann Johnson Graham and her husband, R. Neal, of Richmond; four great-grandchildren, Caitlin Graham, Tyler Graham, Jennifer Johnson and Kellie Johnson, all of Richmond; a brother-in-law, Richard Emil Parker of Alderson; a sister-in-law, Pansy Drumheller of Fairfield, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
