"Mick" Acord, 62, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at a Charleston hospital following a short illness. Born Jan. 18, 1938, in Clear Fork, he was the son of the late Jack and Mary Graham Acord. Mr. Acord had been a resident of Wyoming County most of his life. He was a retired preparation plant foreman at Wharton No. 2 Tipple and a member of Pentecostal House of Prayer, Lynco. He was preceded in death by a son, Rondall Acord; a sister, Mary Acord; and a brother, Jimmy Acord. Survivors include his wife, Shirley D. Green Acord; two daughters, Debra Ballard and her husband, Keith, of Danville and Sherry Woodie and her husband, Jerry, of Barrett; three brothers, Ambers Acord of Kopperston, Bobby Acord of Clear Fork and John Acord of Lynco; two sisters, Lucille Varney and Betty Johnson, both of Oceana; and three grandchildren, Danielle, Shawn and Daniel. Born Feb. 15, 1924, in Lex, he was the son of the late James and Rose McCoy Beavers. Mr. Beavers was retired from Pittson Coal, where he was employed as a miner. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Ethel A. Born May 23, 1965, in Cleveland, he was the son of James Harold and Shirley Dunbar Bryant of Clear Creek. Mr. Bryant was employed by Powell Construction Co. He was a 1983 graduate of Clear Fork High School, where he was named All-State two years in a row in football and played basketball and baseball. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ralph and Ora Dunbar; and his paternal grandparents, John and Nora Bryant. Born Jan. 4, 1908, in Verner (Leatherwood Creek), she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Launa Browning Walls. Mrs. Carter was a lifelong resident of Wyoming County, a Christian since age 15 and a member of Old Leartherwood Community Curch. She was also preceded in death by her stepmother, Minnie Browning Walls; her first husband, Laffe Maynard; her second husband, Holden Carter; a son, Roger Maynard; a daughter, Virginia Laffie Mounts; a grandson, Cecil Spaulding; three brothers, Lee, Edward and Albert Walls; and four sisters, Dorothy Mitchell, Lena Hatfield, Betty Walls and Inda Walls. Born April 30, 1915, in Herndon, he was the son of the late Elmer Joseph and Louisa Ramsey Lambert. Mr. Lambert was a retired coal miner from Itmann Coal Co. and a member of the United Mine Workers of America and River Valley Baptist Church, Forest Hill. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Bernard, Joseph E., Hubert E. Lambert and Vernie Morgan; and two sisters, Buleau Troxell and Edith Holliday. Born Nov. 27, 1950, in Wyoming County, he was the son of Leona Milam of Crab Orchard and the late Raymond Milam. Mr. Milam was a 49-year resident of Raleigh County. He was a coal miner and attended Tilden Community Church.
