Register Herald Obituaries for April 15, 2000 Mary 'Doochie' Bailey GLEN ROGERS - Mary Elizabeth "Doochie" Bailey, 62, died Thursday, April 13, 2000, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness. Born July 16, 1937, in her home in Glen Rogers, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Edward Fuller. Mrs. Bailey was a sales representative for Blair Products with 37 years of service and accomplished the honors of Representative of the Year and President's Club Outstanding Sales Achievement. She also was the recipient of many trophies, pins and certificates. She was a graduate of Conley High School. She was a lifelong member of Greater New Jerusalem Holiness Temple, baptized in Jesus' name and Holy Ghost filled. At Greater New Jerusalem she was president of the Missionary Society and treasurer of the Usher Board. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Saunders and Ethel Whittaker; and two nephews, Sgt. Edward Neno Fuller and Saul E. Fuller Jr. Survivors include her loving and devoted husband, Earl J. Bailey; two sisters, Dorothy Lee Minnifield and Evangelist Mary Alice Fuller, both of Glen Rogers; two brothers, James Cyphelas Fuller of Washington, D.C., and Saul E. Fuller Sr. of Glen Rogers; 11 nieces; eight nephews; 18 great-nieces; 20 great-nephews; four brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; other extended family members and special friends Ruby and Louie Darban; and others unlisted. Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Greater New Jerusalem Holiness Temple, Glen White, with Bishop Joe A. Hairston officiating, and Bishop Fred T. Simms and Minister Eddie Schofield assisting. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Beckley. Pallbearers will include nephews Reese, Anthony and Cyphelas, Michael and Melvin Fuller and family friend Cornelious Akers. Bowles SANDSTONE - William Howard Bowles, 80, of Lockbridge Road, died Friday morning, April 14, 2000, at his home following an apparent heart attack. Born Jan. 23, 1920, in Sandstone, he was the son of the late Edgar E. and Verna Vance Bowles. Mr. Bowles was a retired employee of Blue Valley Lumber Co., Meadow Bridge, and was a lifelong resident of the Sandstone area. He was an avid outdoorsman, having enjoyed working in his garden and hunting ginseng. He also was a follower of bluegrass music. Mr. Bowles was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse Bowles. Survivors include his wife of nearly 44 years, Helen Maxine Gunter Bowles; a daughter, Gayla Gwinn of Lockbridge; a son, William E. "Bill" Bowles and his wife, Debbie, of Beckley; two brothers, Earl Bowles and his wife, Ruth, of Lockbridge Road, Sandstone, and Albert Ray Bowles and his wife, Gwen, of Paradise, Pa.; five grandchildren, Michelle Harless, Melinda Harrah, Eric Gwinn, Rachel Stover and Tara Hepburn; and five great-grandchildren, Shane Harless, Halee Harrah, Dakota Harrah, Sheyla Harless, and Luke Stover. Forren Jr. Charles Thomas "Jay" Forren Jr., 38, of Sullivan Road, Beckley, died Thursday, April 13, 2000, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born Nov. 15, 1961, in Beckley, he was the son of Lavada Smith Forren of Glen Morgan and the late Charles T. Forren Sr. Mr. Forren spent his childhood at Sullivan Road, was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County and was of the Christian faith. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Forren, in 1988. Hendrick ANSTED - Lola Mae Hendrick, 76, formerly of Charleston and Huntington, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at Heartland of Charleston nursing home following a short illness. Born Nov. 23, 1923, in Charleston, she was the daughter of the late Fred Crowder and Lola Effie Pauley Crowder. Mrs. Hendrick was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post No. 7695, Ansted, secretary of fund raising for Ansted Senior Citizens Nutrition Center, a board member of the Hawks Nest Foundation, member of the Ansted American Flag Fund, a homemaker, an Avon representative and a member of Lovers Leap Baptist Church, Ansted. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harland Arthur Hendrick, on June 29, 1990. Survivors include a daughter, Judy H. Simonton and her husband, Ron, of Albuquerque, N.M.; a son, Roger H. Staples STAUNTON, Va. - Brian Mack Staples, 32, formerly of Beckley, died at his home Thursday, April 13, 2000, following an apparent heart attack. Born June 20, 1967, at Fort Bragg, N.C., he was the son of Sherron Pennington Staples Quesenberry of Daniels and the late Mack Staples. Mr. Staples was area manager for Enterprise Rental Cars encompassing Harrisonburg, Staunton, Charlottesville, Waynesboro and other parts of Virginia. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and earned a bachelor's of science degree from Concord College. Mr. Staples was a member of the Men's Bowling League in Staunton and golfed at various country clubs. Other survivors include his wife, Sharon Simpkins Staples; an infant daughter, Leighann Elizabeth Staples at home; a sister, René Lusk and her husband, John, of Franklin; his stepfather, Amos Quesenberry of Daniels; two stepbrothers, Michael and David Quesenberry of Beckley; and his paternal grandmother, Dorothy Staples of Bradley. Born Jan. 30, 1994, in Morgantown, she was the daughter of John and Sherry Russell Vance of Pineville. Sharon was enrolled in preschool at Pineville Riverside, and she was of the Pentecostal faith. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ashley Nicole Vance; and her paternal grandfather, Gary Roger Vance. Other survivors include a sister, Samantha Vance at home; her maternal grandmother, Sharon Russell and Robert Wyatt of McGraws; her maternal grandfather, Donald Russell of Pineville; and paternal grandmother, Diane Vance Fox of Pineville. Born Sept. 18, 1923, in Meadow Bridge, he was the son of the late Leon and Betty Phillips Wilt. Mr. Wilt was retired from Westmoreland Mining Corp. and was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Navy veteran with 20 years of service, having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict, and he flew with the VW-4 Hurricane Hunters. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Hart. Survivors include his wife, Loleta Walkup Wilt; a daughter, Ann L. O'Dell and her husband, Roger D., of Rupert; a grandson, Joshua D. O'Dell and his wife, Shelia, of Smoot; a granddaughter, Kendra O. Lewis and her husband, Keith, of Havelock, N.C.; a great-grandson, Dylan Tyler O'Dell of Smoot; two brothers, Joe Wilt and his wife, Peggy, of Huntington and James Wilt and his wife, Regina, of Springfield, Va.; two sisters, June Stancovich and her husband, Joe, of Silver Springs, Fla., and Bobbie Neely and her husband, Gene, of Marietta, Ohio.
