Chapman II LOYALL, Ky. - William Daniel Chapman II, 52, of Elkins, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Wellmont-Holston Valley Hospital, Kingsport, Tenn., from injuries received in a vehicle accident. Born June 23, 1947, in Kanawha County, he was the son of William D. Chapman I of Oak Hill and the late Margaret Weaver Chapman. Mr. Chapman was employed as a preparation plant manager at Lone Mountain Processing Plant, a subsidiary of Arch Coal Co. He graduated in 1966 from East Bank High School, attended West Virginia University and graduated from West Virginia Institute of Technology with degrees in both electrical engineering and mechanic engineering. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran, where he was assigned to a special radio observation unit with the 1st Cavalry Division. He was awarded several medals, among them two Bronze Stars for valor, and was recognized for "outstanding performance of duty in a combat environment." He was a member of the Church of Christ, an avid reader and a part-time gunsmith. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Nadeene Woodley Browning. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Cathy Browning Chapman; a son, Brandon Chapman, a cadet at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.; two daughters, Kaylan Chapman and Dana Chapman, both of Elkins; a brother, Thomas Chapman and his wife, Jan, of Oak Hill; a sister, Barbara Chapman of Ansted; his father-in-law, James P. Browning Sr. of Fairmont; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, with Evangelist Andy Miller officiating. Entombment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Clarksburg. Friends may call 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Dewey Ray Bishop RAINELLE - Dewey Ray Bishop, 71, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a long illness. Born Dec. 11, 1928, in Aberdeen, Md., he was the son of the late Harrison Calvert and Ruth Nelson Bishop. Mr. Bishop was a truck driver for 34 years, a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean conflict, a member of the Caldwell VFW and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by a son, William Bishop; two sisters, Sally and Margaret; and a brother, "Slim" Bishop. Survivors include his wife, Carlos Huffman Bishop; five stepdaughters, Emily Smith of Maryland, Elizabeth Silva of North Carolina, Carley Bass of New York, Ellen McCombe of Florida and Elaine Ethridge of North Carolina; two sons, Richard Bishop of Montana and Bobby Joe Bishop of North Carolina; four stepsons, Ben Bowen of North Carolina, William Smith of Rainelle, James Smith of Prince and James Hylton of Lewisburg; and three brothers, Garnet Bishop of Aberdeen, "Buzz" Bishop of Maryland and Joe Bishop of Mount Pacific, Tenn. 'Corkey' Harris David "Corkey" Harris, 66, of Shady Spring, died Tuesday evening, April 18, 2000, at his home following a six-month illness of lung cancer. Born Jan. 3, 1934, at Marfrance, he was the son of the late John J. and Annie L. Harris. Mr. Harris attended schools in Greenbrier County. He was employed as a truck driver and an end-loader operator, owned and operated Harris Trucking Co., had been co-owner of a salvage yard and co-owner of Mr. Ed's Tire Service. He was a member of Local Union 6196. He was of the Baptist faith and had been a resident of Shady Spring for 34 years. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Terri Elaine Lilly, on Jan. 27, 1998; seven brothers, Herman Lee, Henry, Lloyd, Ray, Clyde and William, and an infant; and two sisters, Mary Donley and Mildred Wallace. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Lila (Sawyers) Harris; three sons, David D. Noel MORGANTOWN - Norma Marie Brown Noel, 83, died Monday, April 17, 2000, in a Morgantown hospital following a long illness. Born Aug. 25, 1916, in Wayne, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Virginia Bell Herald Brown. Mrs. Noel was a homemaker and a member of Bradley Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Chelsey Irwin Noel Sr.; two brothers; and a sister. Survivors include four sons, the Rev. Eddie R. Noel of Morgantown, the Rev. Ireland J. Noel of Beckley, the Rev. Mrs. Nutter was a homemaker, a graduate of Clay County High School, Class of 1948, and was a member of New Antioch Baptist Church, Enoch. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar J. Nutter, in 1996. Sturgill Surface, 90, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 19, 2000, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born Aug. 12, 1909, in Sparta, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Robert O. and Cynthia Richardson Sturgill. Mrs. Surface was a housewife and of the Protestant faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Edward Surface; a son, Edward L. Surface; and a sister, Edna Sexton. Survivors include two sons, Lake T. Surface of Wonderland and Rondie M. Surface of Sheffield Lake, Ohio; a daughter, Alma Lois Jennings of Cunard; two brothers, Wiley Sturgill of Sparta and Ronald Sturgill of State Road, N.C.; a halfbrother, Ben Sturgill of Baltimore; two sisters, Elsie Surface of Princeton and Madge Fagg of Oak Hill; six grandchildren, Cynthia J.
