Adkins, 53, of Beaver, went home to be with the Lord at his sister's home Thursday, April 20, 2000, after a long and courageous battle with bone cancer. Born Feb. 9, 1947, in Hinton, he was the son of the late Tally and Rosa Gillian Adkins of Sandstone. Mr. Adkins was a disabled self-employed building construction worker. He was of the Christian faith and a member of Quinnimont Baptist Church. He loved to hunt and enjoyed NASCAR and racing. His greatest gift was doing for others and he loved gathering with friends at Hardee's. Survivors include his companion, Lois Ross; a son, Harry E. Adkins Jr., and a daughter, Beth Ellen Adkins, both of Tennessee; four sisters, Retha Beard and her husband, Bill, of Huntington, Hazel Martin and her husband, Tom, of Beaver, his twin, Mary Hall and her husband, Gary, of Lavalette and Roberta Carter and her husband, Greg, of Milton; two brothers, Jerry Adkins and his wife, Loretta, of Columbus, Ohio, and Buster Adkins and his wife, Eve, of Parkersburg; two grandchildren; nine nieces; and six nephews. Mrs. Dempsey was a homemaker and member of Horseshoe Baptist Church, Victor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raleigh Osington Dempsey, on March 4, 1990; and an infant son, Lloyd Eugene Dempsey. Fink, 78, of Beckley, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at her home following a long illness. Born Dec. 12, 1921, in Crawfordsville, Ind., she was the daughter of Edith Morgan Quick of Rainelle and the late Richard S. Quick. Mrs. Fink was of the United Methodist faith and was retired from the Accounting Board of the City of Beckley Sanitary Department. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Everette Fink, in 1987; a daughter, Kathleen Fink; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Hancock. Other survivors include two daughters, Patricia Cannon and Margaret Hancock, both of Beckley; a son, Everette Butch Fink of Beckley; two sisters, Doraline Moore and Joan Burns, both of Rainelle; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Luther Halsey PINEVILLE - Luther Halsey, 72, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at Johnson City, Tenn., Medical Center after a short illness. Born Feb. 10, 1928, at Coon Fork, he was the son of the late Ernest B. and Lena Tolliver Halsey. Mr. Halsey was a proud member of Pineville Presbyterian Church and was a devoted servant of the Lord. He was the owner and operator of Pineville Furniture Co., and it was his honor to serve the community in that capacity for 37 years. He was a proud graduate of Pineville High School. He was an avid supporter of all area sports teams with special fondness for the Pinevlile Little League and Pineville Youth Basketball Programs. Mr. Halsey was a devoted husband and father who took great pride and joy in spending time with his family. He especially loved being with his five grandchildren who brought him much pleasure. He was preceded in death by a sister, Merle Breeding; and a brother, Onnie Halsey. Montgomery, 64, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center following a sudden illness. Born April 7, 1936, in Lewisburg, he was the son of John F. Montgomery of Lewisburg and the late Edith Rothwell Montgomery. Mr. Montgomery was a graduate of Lewisburg High School, did his undergraduate studies at Hampden-Sydney College and received his master's degree from the University of Virginia. Mr. Montgomery was a member of Ronceverte Presbyterian Church, where he was a deacon, elder, member of the choir and Men of the Church. He held membership in the Scout Troop No. 70 Committee and Pheta Chi fraternity. He was a retired educator in the Greenbrier County school system. Mrs. Simpson was a homemaker, a member of Welcome Baptist Church, Beckley, and a former member of the New Era District Chorus. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Francetta Jackson; a grandson, Michael Simpson; and two brothers, Frank C. Gore and Oakley Gore. Born Sept. 26, 1922, in Bramwell, he was the son of the late Chester M. and Ana Tabor. Mr. Tabor was a member of Eccles Comunity Church, where he served as a Sunday school superintendent for several years., He was a highly decorated World War II veteran, serving with the 32nd Infantry Division, and received two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star for bravery, the Presidential Unit Citation, a South Pacific Campaign Medal with three Battle Stars and a Beach Head, the Combat Infantry Badge and the World War II Victory Medal. He was also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the American Legion. After being discharged from the Army, he married Edna Mae Patton May 20, 1950, and worked in Beckley as an auto mechanic. Later he worked at the Beckley veterans hospital as the food service supervisor and retired there after 11 years of service. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Chester "Fuzz" Tabor, Stanley Tabor and Joseph Tabor. Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Edna Mae Patton Tabor; a son, Michael E. Tabor of Beckley; two grandsons, Daniel J. Tabor and his wife, Cindy, of Beckley and David J. Tabor of Charleston; three sisters, Mary James and her husband, Bill, of Beckley and Ethel Beattie and Annalee Hofenbrdel, both of Eugene, Ore. Lynn Chappell; and a grandson, Jacob Chappell. Survivors include his wife, Hilda Louise Bowyer Weeks; two sons, Tommy L.
