Crane LEWISBURG - Roxie Lou Crane, 86, went to be with her Lord on Easter Sunday, April 23, 2000, at her home in Lewisburg, following a long illness. Born Sept. 4, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Sarah McClanahan Clair. Mrs. Crane was the founder of the Rupert Church of God, a member of the Fairlea Church of God, a former pastor of the Renick Church of God and the Lookout Church of God, and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, five children, one brother, three sisters and three grandchildren. Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Lowell D. Crane; four daughters, Jean Caudill of Millers Creek, N.C., Linda Vestal of Princeton, Dina Dishman of Peoria, Ariz., and Carolyn Shafer of Lewisburg; three stepdaughters, Phyllis Yost of Durango, Colo., Janice Crane of Salisbury, Md., and Thelma Winfree of Parsonsburg, Md.; four sons, Bill Agee of Glenville, David Agee of Highland Heights, Ky., Henry Agee of Auto, and Harvey Agee of Quinwood; a stepson, Lowell D. Crane of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Pearl Kendall of Lebanon, Ohio; 27 grandchildren, nine stepgrandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and nine stepgreat-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Bartholomew Perry and Susan Erskine officiating. Arrangements by Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Rainelle. Winnie L. Dempsey RAMSEY - Winnie Lee Dempsey, 93, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at her home, following a long illness. Born March 11, 1907, in Nichols on Paint Creek, she was the daughter of the late Floyd E. McGraw and Emma Belle Terry McGraw. Mrs. Dempsey was a member of the Horseshoe Baptist Church. She moved to Ramsey when she was 1 year old and has lived in the vicinity ever since. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph A. Dempsey; her twin sister, Willie Fox, and other sisters, Golda Kincaid, Gussie Ruth Cavendish, Hester Goad, Clyda Fox and Susie McGraw; and a brother, Woodrow McGraw. Survivors include a nephew, Jerry W. McGraw of Ramsey; a niece, Cathy M. Skaggs of Ramsey; several more nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Verda McGraw of Ramsey; and two brothers-in-law, Rufus Dempsey of Fayetteville and Robert Dempsey of Ansted. Billy 'Bill' Lilly Sr. Billy Gene "Bill" Lilly Sr., 68, of Shady Spring, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at a Beckley hospital, following an eight-month battle with cancer. Born Oct. 5, 1931, at Cherry Creek, he was the son of the late E.J. "Joe" and Martha Meadows Lilly. Mr. Lilly had retired from Consolidation Coal Co. after working 21 years as warehouse supervisor for the Rowland Mine at Clear Creek. Prior to this he had worked for V.N. Green Co. of Charleston for eight years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shady Spring, where he served as usher, deacon and trustee. He had also coached basketball and baseball for the church league. He was an avid outdoorsman. He was an officer in the Glade-Pinch Trout Association for many years and loved to fish and hunt with his family and friends. He was a strong supporter of youth athletic programs in the Shady Spring area having spearheaded many fund-raising activities for the football, baseball and wrestling programs. He was also an umpire for the Little League and Babe Ruth baseball leagues. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ted Lilly, Nov. 30, 1987. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Robinson Lilly; a daughter, Robin Walker and husband, John, of Ghent; two sons, Billy Gene "Butch" Lilly Jr. and wife, Kathy, of Ghent, and Steve Lilly of Orlando, Fla.; four beloved grandchildren, Jud and Sam Lilly and Johnny and Jenna Walker, all of Ghent; a brother, E.R. Lilly Eugene Hartzel Lilly, 76, of 118 Patton Drive, Jonben, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born July 7, 1923, at Jonben, in Raleigh County, he was the son of the late Henry Chase Lilly and Minerva Alabama Lilly. Mr. Lilly was a retired farmer and lifelong resident of Jonben. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Marvin C., Oris Benjamin, Otho H. and Eulis E. Lilly; three sisters, Violet L. Workman, Beulah Eskins and Eula Norris; an infant brother, Buren Lilly; and two nephews, James and Thomas Norris. Survivors include his caregivers, Melissa Parks and Kenneth Lilly of Jonben; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with the Rev. Alma Martin Alma Martin, 91, of 351 Orchard Hill Road, Beaver, died 8:15 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2000, at a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born Nov. 23, 1908, at Windom Road, Pineville, she was the daughter of the late Jefferson Davis Smith and Florence Cook Smith. Mrs. Martin had helped her husband in the dairy business until 1966 and was a homemaker. She was a member of Bradley Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Martin, in 1968; one granddaughter, one grandson, one brother and three sisters. Survivors include a son, William H. Martin and wife, Phyllis, of Bloomington, Ind.; two daughters, Lucy Pittman and husband, George, of Daniels, and Nancy Tilley and husband, Joel, of Beaver, with whom she resided; two sisters, Ethel Perry of Pax and Dorothy Ellison of Clarksville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Moran OAK HILL - Harry Henry Moran, 80, died Easter Sunday, April 23, 2000, in Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, following a short illness. Born Feb. 21, 1920, at Fort Springs, he was the son of the late Ernest and Cuma Levisey Moran. Mr. Moran was a retired superintendent for S.J. Groves Construction Co., Minneapolis, Minn. He was a member of the Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to touch his life. He was respected for his unwavering integrity and wit. He was an unpretentious man who respected the rights of all. Mr. Moran was a distinguished World War II veteran serving with the Army Air Corps "Flying Tigers," having spent nearly four years in campaigns throughout India, Burma, China and Tibet. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Moran; four brothers, Fred, Wallace, Oather and Albert Moran; and two sisters, Elizabeth Morris and Grace Poteet. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Sizemore Moran; three sons, Harry E. Moran II and wife, Nina, of Elkview, Wayne P. Moran and wife, Debbie, of Chicago, Ill., and Jerald W. William 'Bill' Smith BRENTON - William "Bill" Smith, 66, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, in a Bluefield hospital following a long illness. Born May 19, 1933, at Verner, he was the son of the late Roy and Mary Smith. Mr. Smith was a construction supervisor. He was a decorated Marine Corps veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict, and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include two sons, Ty Smith and wife, Lynn, of Jesse, and Trevor Smith of Brenton; two daughters, Willyne Loretta Bergendohl and husband, Jim, of Hawaii, and Eunice Yvonne Graham and husband, Jennings, of Brenton; a brother, Clifford Smith of Glen Fork; a sister, Helen Bishop of Gilbert; a close friend and companion, Patricia Mabes of Brenton; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Lorenzo Williams MEADE - Lorenzo Williams, 61, formerly of Philadelphia, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, in a local hospital following a short illness. Other survivors include his wife, Sonia Williams at home; three sons, Raymond, David and Johnny Williams, all of Philadelphia; two daughters, Deborah and Brenda Williams, both of Philadelphia; a half sister, Velvet of Detroit, Mich.; and three grandchildren.
