Born Oct. 21, 1931, in Vilas, N.C., she was the daughter of Frances Soots Coleman of Coal City and the late Robert L. Coleman. Mrs. Darnell was a retired employee of the Department of Health and Human Services and a born-again Christian. She was a member of the Moose and Eagles. She was preceded in death by a son, Danny Ray Darnell; and a nephew, Golden Lee Pegram. Survivors include her husband of 49 1/2 years, Brack M. Darnell; three sons, Roger Darnell and his wife, Patty, of Coal City, Darrel Darnell, and his wife, Drema, of Beckley and Michael Darnell and his wife, Lynn, of Coal City; a daughter, Vicky Gray and her husband, Howard, of Fairdale; a sister, Ruth Pegram and her husband, Toby, of Coal City; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four grandsons-in-law; nieces, nephews, Tiny and an abundance of relatives and friends. Born May 19, 1929, at Blue Jay, he was the son of the late Eugene James ³Bill² and Edna Marie ³Ned² Lynch Fourney. He was the grandson of the late P.C. and Mary Lynch and David and Angeline Fourney. Mr. Fourney was a graduate of Shady Spring High School and West Virginia Institute of Technology. After college, he worked at the Montgomery Herald and Fayette Tribune, and then joined the Hodels at the Ravenswood News. With his brothers, Pat, David, Paul, and Joseph, he purchased controlling interest of Star Printing and The Ravenswood News in 1970. He was publisher-editor of the Ravenswood News and president of Star Printing for 33 years. He was president and held other various offices in the West Virginia Press Association. He was named to the West Virginia Printing Hall of Fame in 1968 and was named Premier Journalist by the West Virginia Press Association in 1991. He was also a member of the Ravenswood Lions Club. Mr. Fourney was a diabetic for 58 years, witnessing and participating in many innovations in treatment over the years. He was willing to counsel and encourage young diabetics on their treatment. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Patrick C. , Paul J., John Edward and Francis Joseph Fourney. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Fourney; a daughter, Martha Jean of Hurricane; five sons, Edward of Charleston, Conrad of Banks, Idaho, Andrew of Houston, Todd of Pepperell, Mass., and Paul of Atlanta; the childrenıs mother, Betty Jean Fourney; and three grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Grace Houchens of Cincinnati and Nuala Marie Roberts of Columbia, Md.; five brothers, David of Vienna, Va., Eugene James Jr. of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Michael of Mailbu, Calif., William L. of Laurel, Md., and Joseph of Beckley; and 37 nieces and nephews. Mr. Okes was a retired employee of Westmoreland Coal Co., a member of the UMWA and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, just being in the country. Mr. Okes was a 43-year resident of Shady Spring and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Kermit, Lonnie and Clinton Okes. He was former president of the Youth Usher Board of New Hope Baptist Church and a trustee of the New Era Singing Convention. Because of his special contributions to the building fund of New Era Singing Convention, the dining hall was named in his honor, the Edward Scales Dining Hall. He was preceded in death by his half brother, Willie C.
