Ayers FORT WORTH, Texas ‹ Daniel ³Danny² Hamrick Ayers, 46, formerly of the Beckley area, died Monday, April 12, 1999, at his home following a long illness. Born Sept. 11, 1952, in Oceana, he was the son of Barbara Mills and her husband, James, of Cool Ridge, and the late Dallas Ayers. Mr. Ayers was a retired employee of Pollock Paper Co., had been a resident of Fort Worth since 1981 and was a U.S. Navy veteran. Other survivors include his wife of 17 years, Martha Ayers; a son, Anthony Ayers and his wife, Bobbie, of Beaver; two stepdaughters, Elisa Adams and her husband, Dan, of Willow Park, Texas, and Allison Miller and her husband, Brian, of Fort Worth; three sisters, Vicki Ayers of Princeton and Brenda Biggs and Patti Shehane, both of Beckley; a brother, Jim Ayers of Las Vegas; four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special brother-in-law, Wesley Davis. Gilmer BROOKNEAL, Va. ‹ Maxine Turner Gilmer, of 205 Cook Ave., died Monday, April 12, 1999, at her home. Born at Epperly, she was the daughter of the late Harry Bernard Turner and Hattie Ganelle White Turner. Mrs. Gilmer was a graduate of Welch High School, an active member in civic organizations and member of the Federation of Womenıs Clubs with 51 years of service. While a member of the Montgomery Junior Womanıs Club, she served as recording secretary, delegate to the state convention and chaired various committees. During her membership in the Keystone-Northfork Womanıs Club, she held offices as treasurer, recording secretary, vice president and served two terms as president and was a state delegate for seven years. As a member of the Oak Hill Womanıs Club, she held the offices as treasurer and recording secretary and represented the club as a state delegate. Upon her husbandıs retirement, she transferred into the Brookneal Womanıs Club and served on various committees. She was a member of the Federation of Garden Clubs for 48 years. Mrs. Gilmer was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy for 27 years, being chapter president of the Southern Cross Chapter No. 2001 of Oak Hill, while serving as the West Virginia state 2nd vice president. She joined the Halifax Chapter No. 1321, serving as chapter registrar and scrapbook chairman. The annual Christmas program was hosted by her in her home for many years. She was a member of St. John Episcopal Church and was active in the Episcopal Church Womenıs League in Keystone and Oak Hill. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry Turner Jr., Fred Turner and William Turner; and two sisters, Louise Scott and Nelle Barker. Survivors include her husband, Ernest Wilburn Gilmer Jr.; two daughters, Beverly Gilmer-Noakes of Fredericksburg, Va., and Priscilla Gilmer Yasbick of Eden, N.C.; three grandchildren, Kristen M. Noakes of Fredericksburg, Trever P. Noakes of Spotsylvania, Va., and Eric S. Noakes of Stafford, Va.; two sisters, Mary Turner Sergent of Brookneal and Patricia Turner Harris of Halifax, Va.; and a sister-in-law, JoAnn Auvil Turner of Iaeger. Maebell D. Kincaid BUCKHANNON ­ Maebell D. Kincaid, 87, formerly of Kincaid, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, in a Buckhannon care center following a short illness. Born April 9, 1912, in Lexington, Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Emma Virginia Agnor Deacon. Mrs. Kincaid was a homemaker and a member of Kincaid United Methodist Church and Christian Fellowship Church of Buckhannon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Preston Kincaid, on June 30, 1993. Survivors include a brother, Edward Charles Deacon of Buena Vista, Va.; a sister, Gertrude Hartless of Buena Vista; and several nieces and nephews, including Robert and Barbara Kincaid of Buckhannon, with whom she resided. Miller, 76, formerly of Rainelle, and a resident of Greenbrier Manor, Lewisburg, died Friday, April 9, 1999, in a Fairlea medical center. Born Feb. 13, 1923, in Rainelle, he was the son of the late Charles and Lilly Carr Miller. Mr. Miller grew up in Rainelle, resided in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and then returned to Rainelle in 1982. He was a Mason, a U.S. Army veteran and a former sales representative for Andrew Brown Co. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Pauline Crim Miller, in 1981. Survivors include two daughters, Sara F. Miller of San Diego and Donna J. Mongston of Davie, Fla.; a son, Michael P. Miller of Davie; and two grandchildren. Mrs. Runion was a former employee of Beckley Manufacturing and the Raleigh County Board of Education, where she worked with vision and speech screening. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and had been a resident of Beckley most of her life. She was preceded in death by a brother, Andy Anderson. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Russell R. Vogelsong, 83, of 2131/2 Prince St., Beckley, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born July 26, 1915, in Devon, he was the son of the late Fred H. Vogelsong and Virginia Oury Vogelsong. Mr. Vogelsong was president, owner and operator of Beckley Dental Lab. He was a graduate of Big Creek High School and McClain School for Dental Technology of Washington and Philadelphia. Mr. Vogelsong had been a resident of Beckley since 1954, having previously resided in Welch. He was past president of West Virginia Dental Laboratory Association was a member of United Methodist Church. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Jean Vogelsong. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mabel Harris Vogelsong; and a daughter, Mary Vogelsong of Beckley. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Bob Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell. Born May 12, 1914, at Lower Boone, he was the son of the late Jack and Sarah ³Bessie² Carver Ward. Mr. Ward was a 19-year resident of Danese, a member of Loops Road Holiness Church of Danese and retired from Bethleham Steel in 1977. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gretha Gibson Ward, on July 11, 1980. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Ruth Grubb Wall Ward; a daughter, Eva Locklear of Baltimore, and a special niece, whom he raised, Debbie Kay Frasca of Kingsville, Md.; four stepdaughters, Sally Virginia Berry, Minnie Gunnoe and Betty Hubbard, all of Danese, and Dotty Tabor of Mount Lookout; three stepsons, George Wall of Danese and Marvin Wall and Frazier Wall, both of Richmond, Va.; a special nephew whom he raised, Stephen Pratt of Champagne, Ill.; two sisters, Louella Gibson of Russellville and Stella Pyatt of Ansted; a brother, Charles Ward of Ohio; two grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
