Born Nov. 23, 1934, at Longbottom, Raleigh County, he was the son of Dewey Adkins of Longbottom and the late Beulah G. Adkins. Mr. Adkins had lived all his life in Summers and Raleigh counties. He was a disabled coal miner, member of UMWA District 29 and of the Baptist faith. Other survivors include his wife, Francis Brookman Adkins; a son, James Junior Adkins of Hinton; a daughter, Kathy L. Anthony Richard Rogers Anthony, 79, of 208 Antonio Ave., Beckley, died Friday, April 16, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born March 29, 1920, in Bessemer, Ala., he was the son of the late Will Anthony and Rosa Brown Anthony. Mr. Anthony was a custodian for Oga Coal Company Store, Coalwood, and member of Mount Zion Baptist Church where he was on the board of deacons. Survivors include four sisters, Mamie Brown of Glen White, Mary Clay of Columbus, Ohio, Ruth Arnold of Indianapolis and Lillie Mae Anthony of Portland, Ore.; and two brothers, Warner E. She was a homemaker and member of the Pentecostal House of Prayer, where she served as a ladies aide. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hillard Gibson; five sons, Freeman, Ullie, Dewey, Roger and Lacy Gibson; one daughter, Delma Gibson; one brother, Sherman Osborne; one sister, Evie Osborne Gibson; and one great-grandchild. Mrs. Gilkerson was retired from Sears as a supervisor and was a member of Jones Memorial Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Randal Forbes, in 1975; her second husband, Benjamin Gilkerson, in 1995; two brothers, William and Buddy Tilley; and a sister, Della Warrick. Mrs. Helmick was a homemaker and had lived most of her life at Stuarts Draft. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. She had resided in Camp Creek for the past 25 years having lived previously in Baltimore, Md., and Beckley. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Henry Lewis Mitchell, in 1985; two sons, Lewin D. Mitchell and James T. Mitchell; three brothers, Kelly E. Wilson Jr., David L. and Loren D. She was a member of the Roxalana Gospel Tabernacle at Dunbar. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest L. Quinn in 1977; and a sister, Madeline Peffer. Blankenship Riffe, 69, of Lower Sandlick Road, Glen Daniel, died Sunday, April 18, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born Jan. 14, 1930, at Bull Creek in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late Kelly and Octavia Deskins Blankenship. Mrs. Riffe spent her childhood in McDowell County, where she graduated from Iaeger High School. She was an active member of the Bethany Regular Baptist Church at Ikes Fork and the Friendship Association. She had been a resident of Raleigh County since 1954, having lived at Sandlick for the past 25 years. She had been employed at Holiday Inn and Days Inn, Beckley, having last worked for Gold Star Tours as a tour escort. She had been very active in school activities at Shady Spring and Trap Hill high schools for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cullen Riffe on Oct. 31, 1998; an infant son, Freddie Dean; three brothers, William, Walter and Leonard; and two infant sisters, Mary Elizabeth and Dorothy Blankenship. Survivors include a son, Jack and his wife, Wanzie, of Glen Daniel; two daughters, Deborah L. Robert Snyder Jr. Robert Snyder Jr., 78, of 1306 F St., Beckley, died Friday, April 16, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born March 6, 1921, at Wind-ing Gulf, he was the son of the late Robert Snyder and Dora English Snyder. Mr. Snyder was a retired miner, member of the UMWA, World War II Army veteran, member of the NAACP, the Holiness Church of Jesus, was an ordained deacon, a member of the trustee board, church praise leader of devotion, former Sunday School teacher and church custodian. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Snyder and Ed Snyder; and four sisters, Thelma Neal, Lurd Guerrant, Viola Fisher and Beulah Snyder. Survivors include his wife, Mabel Roebuck Snyder, whom he wed on April 16, 1950; three children, Robert Anton Snyder of Stone Mountain, Ga., Marian L. Pickens and her husband, Ira, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Sherri D.
