Brown, 74, formerly of Glen Daniel, died Monday, April 26, 1999, in an Elyria hospital following a short illness. Born Jan. 6, 1925, at Wavely, he was the son of the late Clem A. and Stella Wingrove Brown. Mr. Brown was a 1943 graduate of Trap Hill High School. He was a retired motor inspector for LTV Steel in Cleveland and a member of the United Steel Workers Local No. 188, Cleveland. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant and serving with the 3rd Armored Division (Spearhead). He was a member of VFW Post No. 3341 in Grafton, Ohio, and was a former commander of the VFW Post, Bolt. Survivors include his wife, Betty Webb Brown of Elyria; a daughter, Brenda Sue Montano of North Ridgeville, Ohio; a son, Dana Wayne Brown of Sheffield Lake, Ohio; a brother, Kennith Brown of Hurricane; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren, all of Ohio. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Earl Snuffer officiating. Burial will follow inn Glen Daniel Methodist Church Cemetery, Glen Daniel, where military graveside services will be conducted by the Sophia-Midway VFW Post No. 4326. Burdette Sr., 47, of Beckley, formerly of Peterstown, died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born Dec. 4, 1951, he was the son of Vera Marie Proffitt Nelson of Elizabethtown, Ky., and the late Billy Dean Burdette. Mr. Burdette attended the Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church, Crab Orchard. Other survivors include a son, Dennis Burdette Jr. and his wife, Melissa, of Lindside; four daughters, Lisa Rice and her husband, Clifton, of Rich Creek, Va., Tina and Brittany Burdette, both of Rich Creek, Va., and Myria Gumm of Cowen; three brothers, Randall Burdette of Elizabethtown, Ky., Billy Burdette and his wife, Patty, of New York, and Jimmy Burdette of Kentucky; five sisters, Rhonda Olliges and her husband, Bob, of Kentucky, Rita Hicks and her husband, Randy, of Princeton, Diane Boone and her husband, John, of Elizabethtown, Ky., Faye Pack and her husband, Gary, of Cool Ridge, and Donna Struwe of Elizabethtown, Ky.; three grandchildren, Caitlyn Rice, Austin and Brookelynn Burdette; a special friend, Juanita Combs of Beckley; and several nieces and nephews. Coffman Jr. COLUMBUS, Ohio - Howard Dixon Coffman, Jr., 77, formerly of Lewisburg, died Thursday, April 29, 1999, inn a Columbus, Ohio, medical center following a long illness. Born Feb. 21, 1922, in Lewisburg, he was the son of the late Howard D. and Hettie Hanger Coffman Sr. Mr. Coffman had been a resident of Columbus for many years, was a World War II U.S. Air Force veteran and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Dorothy C. Workman, on Aug. 10, 1989; and a brother, William P. Coffman in 1945. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Laureate Thomas Coffman of Columbus, Ohio; two sons, William Coffman and Howard Coffman, both of Columbus; a brother-in-law, Paul Thomas of Plain City, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Doris Dalton of Columbus, Ohio and Mary Brant of Fairlea. Craig LESLIE - Gertrude N. Craig, 96, died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, in a Rainelle care center following a long illness. Born Sept. 19, 1902, at Newhall, she was the daughter of the late Robert H. and Susan Nelson. Mrs. Craig had been a resident of Leslie since 1935 and was of the Methodist faith and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Peyton Craig, in 1961; a daughter, Virginia Hagy; two sons, Robert L. Craig and James J. Craig; four sisters, Minnie, Ethel, Violet and Gladys; and four brothers, Spurgeon, Hobart, Pete and Vance. Survivors include a daughter, Helen Quattlebaum and her husband, Joe, of Leslie; a granddaughter, Barbara Blume and her husband, Jim, of Quinwood; a grandson, James Goddard of Danese; one great-granddaughter, Connie Blume of Ronceverte; and one great-grandson, Gary Blume and his wife, Novella, of Nettie. Martin BLUEFIELD - John Wilbert Martin, 93, formerly of Pineville, died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, in a Glenwood care center. Born Sept. 13, 1905, at Dunns, he was the son of the late Lawson and Lessie Lilly Martin. Mr. Martin was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Bluefield, a former member of the Pineville Masonic Lodge, a former Pineville town councilman, and was co-owner and operator of the Piggley Wiggley store in Pineville for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth George Martin; three brothers, Roy Martin, Johnson Martin and Lemuel Martin; seven sisters, Florence Ellison, Glenna Ferguson Rosebaum, Bess Akers, Cleo Skelton Pritchard, Dixie Richmond, Sylvia Sizemore Bennett and Hattie Ellison. Survivors include three sons, John Martin and his wife, Jane, of Richlands, Va., Jack Martin and his wife, Evelyn, of Pineville, and Robert Martin and his wife, Anita, of Bluefield; a daughter, Constance Gorman and her husband, Jim, of Chester, Va.; a sister, Goldie Houchins of Baltimore; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Born Jan. 12, 1914, at McComas, in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late William Baker and Luticia Calloway Baker. Mrs. Parker was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Parker; a daughter, Billie Jean Baskerville; four brothers; and four sisters. Survivors include two sons, David Drummer and John T. Parker Jr. and his wife, Dovie, both of Cincinnati; nine grandchildren, Carolyn Booker, Camilla Larson, Michael Baskerville, Maurice Basker-ville, Sean Parker, Kim Griffin, Michael Griffin, Jahmar Parker, and Marguerite Alston; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucy Johnson of Wilcoe; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
