Boley, 89, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a short illness. Born April 17, 1910, in Russellville, he was the son of the late George W. and Viola V. Haynes Boley. Mr. Boley graduated from Bluefield Business College. He went on to become a well-known businessman in Rainelle and was a Chevrolet/Oldsmobile dealer from 1942 until his retirement in 1979. Mr. Boley served as a member of the board of directors of the First State Bank and Trust in Rainelle from 1973 until his retirement from the board in 1997. He was also a member of the Rainelle Lions Club and the Rainelle United Methodist Church and was active in various community organizations. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jane "Peggy" King Boley, on March 5, 1991. Survivors include a daughter, Carol Waugh of Baltimore; two sons, Robert Boley of Ocala, Fla., and James Boley of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, E.R. Boley of Rainelle and Vernon Boley of Russellville; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. today at the Rainelle United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cabler, 72, of 225 Morris Ave., Beckley, died Thursday, July 29, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born May 14, 1927, in Campbell County, Va., he was the son of the late Charles Cabler and Betty L. Edward Cabler. Mr. Cabler was a laborer and member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Cabler, in 1996 and one stepson, Johnny Johnson. Survivors include two stepsons, Eldridge Johnson and his wife Jessie of Rochelle, N.J., and Aaron Johnson and his wife Anna of Jersey City, N.J.; four stepdaughters, Deloris Coles and her husband Allenza, Mary Pannell and her husband Charles, and Stella Myers and her husband Walter all of Altavista, Va., and Aileen Miller and her husband Silas of Evington, Va.; four brothers, Edward Cabler of Altavista, Va., Matthew Cabler, Freddie Cabler and Robert Cabler all of Evington, Va.; three sisters, Virginia Cabler of Lynchburg, Va., Lillian White of Evington, Va., and Marie Farmer of Evington, Va.; three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews; and 37 grandchildren and 12 stepgrandchildren. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Mary Olson Ciprianno, 84, formerly of the Beckley area, died Wednesday, July 14, 1999, in St. Petersburg. Born March 10, 1915, in Glen White, she was the first of eight children of Eric Olson, who came to this country from Sweden, and Margaret McBride, who came from Scotland. Mrs. Ciprianno lived in the Beckley area for many years. Her first husband, William O. "Brother" Bivens, was killed in a coal mining accident at Skelton in July 1940. She was employed by the old E.M. Payne Co. store on Main Street, Beckley, for several years before moving to Florida, in the 1960s. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, George Harry, Charles Edward and Eric; and a sister, Ann Falconer. Survivors include her husband, Carman Ciprianno; two daughters, Nira Warden and Mary Ann Davis, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three sons, William and Jim Bivens, both of Birmingham, Ala., and Robert Dean of St. Petersburg; a brother, Thomas Olson of Huntington; two sisters, Clara Sandberg of Silver Spring, Md., and Margaret Beard of Beckley; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Cynthia Ellen Folden PRINCETON - Cynthia Ellen Folden, 76, of 218 Wallace St., went home to be with Jesus on Friday, July 30, 1999. Born May 2, 1923, at Dott, she was the daughter of the late Frank Bodenheimer and Lula Graham Bodenheimer. Mrs. Folden was a devoted wife and mother. She was a homemaker and a member of the Ashworth Baptist Church in Princeton. She taught Sunday school and served as secretary and church clerk at Hilltop Church at Dott. She also taught Sunday school for many years at Bailey Memorial Church at Giatto. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Bodenheimer and Ray Bodenheimer; three sisters, Gerthel Rose Pearis, Zona Kuwik and Arlene Little; and three grandchildren, Reginald and Loretta Whitt and Rebecca Hope Myers. Charles E. Hawks VANCEBURG, Ky. - Charles E. Hawks, 57, formerly of Pineville, died Friday, July 30, 1999, at his residence following a extended illness. Born Nov. 16, 1941, in Boone County, he was the son of the late William Hawks and Ruth Opal Hawks Price. Mr. Hawks was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Vanceburg Fire Department. He was a mechanic for United Mine Workers in Wharton. When he resided in Pineville, he was captain of the fire department and police department in Oceana. He worked with the police department and also was an auxiliary deputy sheriff for Wyoming County. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman, Billy, and Jackie Hawks; and one sister, Kathleen Wise. Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Edna Lou Compton Hawks; three sons, Charles E. Dave Arlo Meadows Sr. Dave Arlo Meadows Sr., 56, of Cool Ridge, died at his home Friday, July 30, 1999, following a sudden illness. Born July 28, 1943, in New, he was the son of the late Stanton and Martha Ann Ellison Meadows. Mr. Meadows was a former self employed carpenter and was a retired instructor at the Raleigh County Vocational Technical Center, where he taught carpentry and plumbing. He had lived most of his life at Cool Ridge and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Albert Meadows; and a sister, Lorain Bennington. Mona Eloise Wood Mona Eloise Wood, 88, of Beckley, died at 11 a.m. Friday, July 30, 1999, following a long illness at the Heartland of Beckley Nursing Home. Born Dec. 2, 1910, she was the daughter of the late William Estil and Della Frances Lambert Wood. Following a 42-year teaching career in Raleigh County, Miss Wood was well known as an educator throughout the state, through numerous offices held in professional organizations and a lifetime of volunteer education activity. After completing Woodrow Wilson High School in 1930 she received her Standard Normal from Morris Harvey College, AB from Concord College and MA from West Virginia University. After 27 years as teacher in the primary block of Lincoln Elementary School, she began service in the central office of Raleigh County schools in June 1966 as supervisor under Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. When she retired her education career in 1975, the West Virginia Board of Education awarded her the In-State Distinction Award at the annual superintendents' conference, Jackson's Mill. In continuous dedication to education, Miss Wood participated in out-of-school remedial reading programs such as the going activity for nine summers called Camp Shaw Mi Del Eca sponsored by the Greenbrier Military School. In professional leadership service, she was co-organizer and president of the Raleigh County Education Association and president of the Raleigh County Classroom Teachers Association. She was co-author of "Guide for Beginning Teachers" and "Handbook for Reading Teachers in Raleigh County." As a 51-year member of Delta Kappa Gamma, international honor society of women educators, Miss Wood served as Alpha Phi State president 1971-73, after terms as first and second vice president and identical positions on the XI Chapter level. On the international level she was appointed to the Leadership Development committee, and in 1978 she received the state's gold Achievement Award medallion. As a 59-year member of the United Methodist Church she served as teacher, youth department sponsor, member of administrative board, and board of missions. Miss Wood was also a very dedicated choir member. She conducted cultural enrichment tours for pupils under federal funding and reading programs at the Beckley Child Care center. She was former member of the civic department of the Beckley's Woman's Club and the Shepherd's Center Program for retired people of the community. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Estil and Elzie Wood and Dallas England; and two sisters, Nora Thurman and Anna Norton. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews including special caregivers, Wendell Thurman and wife June of Beckley and Jeanne Osborne and husband Mike of Beckley; and two sisters-in-law, Margaret England of Crab Orchard and Audrey Wood of Calhoun, Ga. Services will be conducted 3 p.m. Monday at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Dan Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.
