Register Herald Obituaries for August 2, 1999 Pearl C. Allen Pearl C. Allen, 81, of Mullens, died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at home following a long illness. Born Sept. 25, 1917, in Waitsville, she was the daughter of the late Grover C. and Elsie Bostic Caldwell. Mrs. Allen was a member of the Highland Avenue Baptist Church, Mullens, the Criswell Circle and T.E.L. Sunday school class. She was also a 60-year resident of Mullens and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. "Blackie" Allen Sr.; and three sisters, Kathryn Cassinger, Ethel Bazzie and Gladys Fain. Survivors include two sons, Charles E. Allen Jr. and his wife Rosalie of Richmond, Va., and Jack L. Allen and his wife Judy of Chattanooga, Tenn.; four daughters, Barbara Mullens and her husband Buddy of Mullens, Margaret Joyce and her husband Mike of Mullens, Carol Sue Crouse and her husband Bob of Bel Air, Md., and Betty Jo Thompson and her husband David of Niles, Mich.; one sister, Minnie Campbell and her husband Emerson of Union; one sister-in-law, Edna Wandling of Dunbar; ten grandchildren, Chuck, Gary and David Allen, Jennifer Lashley, Staci Phillips, Derek and Beth Thompson, Rene Crouse, Leann Allen Mellon and Randy Joyce; ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Highland Avenue Baptist Church, Mullens, with the Rev. Phillip Smith officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tankersley Funeral Home and an hour before services Tuesday at the church. Ruth Almeda Ash Ruth Almeda Ash, 89, of Beckley, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at a Beckley nursing home following a long illness. Born Nov. 11, 1909, in Waltersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Erwin K. and Anna B. Brown. Mrs. Ash was a homemaker and school teacher. She was a member of the Methodist Temple and Beckley Womans Club, was a social leader in the community for adult and youth programs, and worked with fund raising and various church activities. She was also a member of the Black Knight Country Club and served as social director of Beta Rho Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Edward Ash Sr.; two sons, Paul Edward Ash Jr. and Ronald Brown Ash; one daughter, Emma Louise Ash; and one granddaughter, Denise Wilcher. Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Janutolo and her husband Dan of Beckley, Delores Taylor and her husband Randy of Plano, Texas, and Ruth Ann Gardner and her husband Joedy of Chandler, Ariz.; one sister, Ella Tevingo of Virginia; 12 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Jack Thomas Lee NARROWS,Va. - Jack Thomas Lee, 67, of 422 Hopkins St., died Saturday, July 31, 1999, in Montgomery Regional Hospital, Blacksburg. Born Jan. 25, 1932, in Washington County, Va., he was the son of the late James Thomas and Fannie Scyphers Lee. Mr. Lee was a retired trooper with the Virginia State Police after 17 years of service. After his retirement from the state police, he was employed by the Flat Top insurance company of Bluefield. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Narrows, and past master of Intermont Lodge No. 269 A.F.&A.M., Narrows. He had served as district deputy grandmaster of the 42nd Masonic District. He was a graduate of the old Grendale High School in Washington County and had served with the U.S. Air Force for four years. He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Lee Taylor. Survivors include his wife, Vivian Duncan Lee; two sons, Michael Thomas Lee and Gregory Neal Lee and his wife Paula, all of Narrows; a brother, James Donald Lee of Brumley Gap, Va.; three sisters, Catherine Lee Dickenson, Sue Lee Duty and Patsy Lee Parris, all of Brumley Gap, Va.; two grandchildren, James Thomas Lee and Amber Pauline Lee, both of Narrows. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. today at Riffe¹s Funeral Service in Narrows. A Masonic memorial service will be at 7 p.m. at Intermont Lodge No. 269. A funeral service will be in Chapel with the Rev. Chris Michael officiating at 8 p.m. today. Burial will follow at noon Tuesday in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Rich Creek. Anna McMillion LEWISBURG - Anna McMillion, 85, passed away Sunday, August 1, 1999, at 2 a.m. in Bright Independent Living Center, Fairlea, following an extended illness. Born Nov. 1, 1913, in Ronceverte, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Ninetta Williams Erskins. She was a member of the Lewisburg United Methodist Church, where she held membership in the Guild Circle. Mrs. McMillion was an honorary member of the Town and Country Community Outreach Service. Survivors include a daughter, Gail Mauzy and huband Bill; five sons, Gary, Marshall and wife Wilma, Sherman and wife Geraldine, Harold McMillion all of Lewisburg, and Glenn and his wife Karen of Blacksburg, Va.; one brother, Charles Erskine of Crozet, Va.; two sisters, Stella Loudermilk of Lewisburg and Ada Legg of Charleston; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Born July 16, 1928, in Fanrock, she was the daughter of the late George Stone and Ruth Lusk. Mrs. Morgan was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Morgan; and one brother, Carmel Stone. Survivors include three sons, Eddie Morgan of Stephens City, Va., Charles Morgan of Orleans, Va., and T.J.
