Register Herald Obituaries for August 3, 1999 George P. Daniel III SALEM, Ohio - George Preston Daniel III passed away suddenly Friday, July 31, 1999, at his home. Born Aug. 18, 1938, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Doff Daniel and Mrs. Doff Daniel. Mr. Daniel was a longtime resident of Salem and a well-known insurance executive, who graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School at Beckley and West Virginia Wesleyan. He was preceded in death by his wife Donna. Survivors include two sons, Mike and Mark Daniel; a daughter, Lou Ann; a sister, Joan D. Powell; and longtime Beckley residents Dr. Doff D. Daniel and Dr. John M. Daniel. A private family service has been scheduled. Nancy M. Humphries INDIAN MOUND, Tenn. - Nancy Margaret Midkiff Humphries, 86, formerly of Naples, N.Y., Marion, N.Y., and Spring Dale, W.Va., died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at Vanderbilt University Hospital, Nashville, Tenn., following a short illness. Born Jan. 10, 1913, in Greenbrier County, she was the daughter of the late William D. and Lucinda Dillon Midkiff. Mrs. Humphries was employed as a factory worker at the Marion Canning Factory, Marion, N.Y., for many years and was a foster grandmother with special needs children until her midseventies. Mrs. Humphries was of the Baptist faith and participated in various senior citizens activities over the past several years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvis Lee Humphries Sr.; one son, Lloyd Humphries; two daughters, Nancy Humphries and Clarabelle Humphries; seven brothers, Odis "Ned," Ulyess "Nat," Joe, Amos, Ed, John, and Jervis "Jerb" Midkiff; three sisters, Myrtle "Peggy" Patterson, Martha Ferguson and Clara Midkiff. Survivors include four sons, Raymond Humphries and wife Agnes of Branchport, N.Y., Carl Humphries and wife Joanie of Rushville, N.Y., Alvis Lee Humphries Jr. and his wife Barb of Newark, N.Y., and William Randolph Humphries and wife Denise of Bristol, N.Y.; four daughters, Margaret Ann Robson and husband Wes of Indian Mound, Tenn., Lillian Jane Buss and husband Ken of Dearborn Heights, Mich., Daisy Ayre and husband Paul of Central Square, N.Y., and Dinah Tiberio of Newark, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, W.Va., with the Rev. Frank Jones officiating. Burial will be in McElhenney Church Cemetery at Grassy Meadows. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson. Robey Midkiff, Ronald Midkiff, Ralph Midkiff, Lanford Midkiff, Danny Midkiff and Herman Bryant will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements by Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson. Rev. Geoge W. King IAEGER - The Rev. George W. King, 78, passed away Sunday, August 1, 1999, in a Bluefield area medical center. Born Feb. 22, 1921, in Lit War, near Iaeger, he was the son of the late Jesse and Frances Roberts King. The Rev. King was the founder of Christ Cathedral Church of Iaeger and was a retired auto salesman. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lillian Mounts King of the home; four daughters, Judi Ellis and husband Boyd of Kernersville, N.C., Christine Belcher and husband Danny of Iaeger, Darlene Long of Cartersville, Ga., and Marilyn Fain and husband Roger of Iaeger; three sons, the Rev. Russell King and wife Frances of Iaeger, Mack King and wife Peggy of Iaeger and Jerry King and wife Betty of Clear Fork; two sisters, Sue Norton of Statesville, N.C., and Ruth Harless of Oceana; one brother, Jesse King Jr. of Steeles; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday from Christ Cathedral Church, Rt. 52, near Iaeger, with the Rev. Charley Kennedy and the Rev. Edwin Harper officiating. Alfred H. Lusk KOPPERSTON - Alfred H. Lusk, 36, died Sunday, August 1, 1999. Born Aug. 8, 1962, in Welch, he was the son of the late Arnold Lee and Lora Pearl Lusk. Mr. Lusk was a foreman for Mingo-Logan Coal Co. and a lifelong resident of Wyoming County. He was the loving husband of Phyllis Blankenship Lusk; and loving father to Kyle Reece Lusk at home and his adopted daughter, Natalia Danielle Erac at home. Other survivors include four brothers, Leon Lusk and his wife Susan of Kopperston, Dale Lusk of Cyclone, Aubrey Lusk and wife Janet of Kistler and Richard Lusk and wife Regina of Cyclone; and three sisters, Geneva Daniels and husband Willis of Cyclone, Sherlene Browning and husband Garry of Cyclone and Sherry Gibson and husband Kenny of Elberton, Ga. He was a loving brother-in-law, uncle and great-uncle to many and will be deeply missed by many friends and relatives. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Toneda Baptist Church with the Rev. William Stanley III and the Rev. Dewight Stafford officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens at Matheny. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Evans and Evans Funeral Directors. Pike, 83, passed away Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, in an Oak Hill medical center, following a long illness. Born March 23, 1916, in Ansted, she was the daughter of the late George McVey and Florence Hendricks McVey. Mrs. Pike was a homemaker, a lifelong resident of Ansted and a member of Ansted Baptist Church of Ansted. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Pike, on Oct. 15, 1989; three grandchildren, David Pike, William Burkhard and Chrysty Dawn Nuckols; one sister, Margaret Hall; and one brother, Pete McVey. Survivors include four daughters, Ruth Jennie Fannin and Clarice Hedy Chapman both of Ansted, Patricia "Patty" Cole of Charleston and Martha Burkhard of Marion, Ohio; three sons, James "Piker" Pike of Ansted, Eugene "Buckie" Johnson Pike of Princeton and Perry "Dinky" Willis of Rainelle; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ansted Baptist Church with the Rev. Victor Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor.
