Register Herald Obituaries for August 4, 1999 Bryan P. DeHart SALISBURY, N.C. - Bryan Patrick DeHart, 17, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, in Lexington, N.C., Memorial Hospital. Born Oct. 1, 1981, in Beckley, he was the son of Johnny Keen and Sherry and Robert Clark of Salisbury. Mr. DeHart attended West Rowen High School in Salisbury and was employed by Johnny's Muffler Shop in Salisbury. Survivors include three brothers, Joshua DeHart of Salisbury and Johnny Lee DeHart, both of Salisbury, and Robert Clark II of Kannapolis, N.C.; his paternal grandmother, Sue Christian; stepgrandfather, Eddie Christian of Narrows, Va.; his stepgrandmother, Myrtle Keen of Tennessee; maternal grandparents, Brady and Geraldine Smith of Dover, Tenn., formerly of Beartown; his paternal grandparents, Bernard and Kay DeHart of Fayetteville; and his stepgrandparents, James Clark and Elizabeth Langston of Philadelphia. Services will be 11 a.m. today at Garwood Church of God, Garwood, with the Rev. Charles Bullins officiating. Burial will follow in Milam Cemetery. Halsey PINEVILLE - Carrie Elizabeth Halsey, 80, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born Feb. 11, 1919, in Pineville, she was the daughter of the late Andy Halsey and Sarah Farley Halsey. Ms. Halsey was a retired teacher of the Wyoming County school system with 36 years of service. She was a graduate of Concord College, studied graduate courses at Marshall University, and was a life member of the National Teachers Association. She was a member of Antioch Regular Baptist Church for many years, and she loved visiting with family and friends and was an avid traveler. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, Carson and Cash Halsey; a sister-in-law, Edna Halsey; and a brother-in-law, Al Miller. Survivors include a brother, Harry Halsey and his wife, Marie, of Beckley; three sisters, Ella Mae Miller of Pineville, Wanda Morgan and her husband, Gary, of Pineville, and Pansy Halsey, with whom she lived, of Pineville; two sisters-in-law, Cora Halsey of Pineville and Vertle Halsey of MacArthur; and several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Services will be noon Thursday at Calfee Funeral Service, Pineville, with Elders Bryce Phillips, Cecil Belcher and Eddie Cline officiating. Burial will follow in Halsey Family Cemetery, Gulf Fork. Arrangements by Calfee Funeral Service, Pineville. Rev. Geoge W. King IAEGER - The Rev. George W. King, 78, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, in a Bluefield area medical center. Born Feb. 22, 1921, in Litwar, near Iaeger, he was the son of the late Jesse and Frances Roberts King. Rev. King was the founder of Christ Cathedral Church of Iaeger and a retired automobile salesman. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lillian Mounts King; four daughters, Judi Ellis and her husband, Boyd, of Kernersville, N.C., Christine Belcher and her husband, Danny, of Iaeger, Darlene Long of Cartersville, Ga., and Marilyn Fain and her husband, Roger, of Iaeger; three sons, the Rev. Russell King and his wife, Frances, of Iaeger, Mack King and his wife, Peggy, of Iaeger and Jerry King and his wife, Betty, of Clear Fork; three sisters, Sue Norton of Statesville, N.C., Ruth Harless of Oceana and Linda Vass of Birmingham, Ala.; a brother, Jesse King Jr. of Steeles; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Christ Cathedral Church, U.S. 52, near Iaeger, with the Revs. Charley Kennedy and Edwin Harper officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell. Wheeler Thelma Mae Wheeler, 78, of 200 Beaver Ave., Beckley, died at 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, in a Beckley care center following a short illness. Born Feb. 5, 1921, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Charles Bailey and Rebecca Fower Bailey. Mrs. Wheeler was a homemaker and a 40-year Avon representative where she was a member of the Presidents Club. She was also a member of First Church of God, Beckley, where she was involved in the WCG, and was a lifelong resident of Beckley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Wheeler; a daughter, Beverley Pittman; and two brothers, Paul and Roy Farley. Survivors include a son, Lawrence Wheeler and his wife, Yvonne, of Beckley; a brother, Earl Farley of Beckley; and a sister, Margaret Ford and her husband, Merle, of Shady Spring; five grandchildren, Angela and Crystal Pittman, Renee Dawson, Eliza Pudder and Nicholas Wheeler; and two great-grandchildren, C.J. Pudder and Tyler Pittman. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Church of God, Beckley, with the Revs. Vondie Cook and Sharon Farley officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, and one hour before services Thursday at the church.
