Register Herald Obituaries for August 6, 1999 Pearl H. Brown BARTOW - Pearl Harriet Brown, 57, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, in Pocahontas Memorial Hospital following a short illness. Born Feb. 25, 1942, in Green Bank, she was the daughter of Thelma Jane Wooddell Galford of Green Bank and the late Carl Marion Galford. Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and attended the Thornwood Community Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Galford; and a sister, Shirley Galford. Other survivors include her husband, John D. Brown; a son, Billy Joe Mauck of Paw Paw; five sisters, Barbara Hammond of Owings, Md., Louise Miller of Martinsburg, Kay Keller of Inwood, Karla Puffenbarger of Hillsboro and Priscilla Nelson of Durbin; three brothers, Wayne Galford and Ernest Galford, both of Arbovale, and William Galford of Frank; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, Arbovale, with the Rev. William Vandevander officiating. Burial will follow in Lambert Cemetery. Chapman VICTOR - Jennings Porter Chapman, 88, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, in a Charleston hospital following a short illness. Born Jan. 8, 1911, in Canvas, he was the son of the late Sherman and Martha Jane Walker Chapman. Mr. Chapman was a lifelong resident of Fayette County. He attended the Victor United Methodist Church, Victor, and was a member of the Hayden Lodge No. 113 of Ansted. He was retired from Union Carbide. Survivors include his wife, Annabelle Wood Chapman of Victor; a son, Brian Chapman and his wife, Robin, of Ansted; two grandchildren, Christopher and Jessica; and one great-grandson, Tyler. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, Ansted, with the Rev. James Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor. McKinney SPRING DALE - Oscar James McKinney, 95, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, in a Rainelle care center following a long illness. Born May 29, 1904, in Flat Top, he was the son of the late Henry and Ellen Meadows McKinney. Mr. McKinney was a retired railroad maintenance foreman for the C&O Railway and attended the Sewell Valley Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ina Gwinn McKinney; a son, Billy Ray McKinney; five brothers, Willard, Lonnie, Hubert, Virgil and Chuck McKinney; and two sisters, Zelma Miles and Stella Wiggens. Survivors include a son, James McKinney and his wife, Pat, of Baltimore; three daughters, Joyce Hanshew and her husband, Melvin, of Spring Dale, Carol O'Dell and her husband, Dale, of Indian Head, Md., and Drema Taylor of Rainelle; a daughter-in-law, Wanetta McKinney of Spring Dale; a brother, John McKinney and his wife, Hilda, of Flat Top; a sister, Dorothy Lawrence of North Carolina; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Smathers Funeral Home Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Gary Trout and the Rev. Mike Whisman officiating. Reno I. Williams HINTON - Reno Ira Williams, 80, of Beech Run, died 5:45 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, in a Hinton hospital following a long illness. Born Jan. 26, 1919, in Hinton, he was the son of the late Ralph E. and Verba Alloy Hellems Williams. Mr. Williams was a lifelong resident of Hinton. He was a retired conductor for C&O Railway, retiring in 1979 after 40 years of service. He was a member of the United Transportation Union and the Central Baptist Church of Hinton, and he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by a son, James F. "Freddie" Williams, in 1996; two brothers and a sister. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Wanda Murrell Williams; two sons, David Ira Williams and his wife, Sue, of Johnstown, Ohio, and Arthur Lee Williams and his wife, Peggy, of Covington, Va.; a sister, Annabelle Phipps of Clifton Forge, Va.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, with Pastors Robbie Merritt and William Robertson officiating. Born Feb. 15, 1918, in Caloric, he was the son of the late Harry A. and Rodoskal Wolfe. Mr. Wolfe was a retired coal miner of 42 years, attended church at Otsego Bible Chapel and Mullens Wesleyan Church, and was a Christian. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Wolfe II; and two sisters, Virginia Stinson and Mildred Splgnor. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Dora F. Nicholson Wolfe of Wyco; two sons, Clayton L. Wolfe Jr. of Prosperity, Harry A. Wolfe III and his wife, Jill, of Chester, Va.; four daughters, Sharlene Graham and her husband, Stacy, of Fredericksburg, Va., Karen Lilly and her husband, Roger, of Coal City, Debbie Perdue and her husband, Kenny, of Otsego, and Kathy Cook and her husband, Dave, of Sophia; a sister, Patsy Galloway of Meridian, Miss.; three grandsons, Clayton L. Wolfe III, Roger Lilly II, and David Wolfe five granddaughters, Jeanie Bowman, Robin Wilson, Kristy Perdue, Amber Wolfe and Samantha Cook. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. today at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, with Pastor Roger Tolliver officiating.
