Estie Marie Hicks LOCKBRIDGE - Estie Marie Hicks, 93, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, in a Raleigh Care Center in Daniels following a long illness. Born May 19, 1906, in Wyoming County, she was the daughter of the late Thurman and Maude Brooks. Mrs. Hicks lived her entire adult life in Lockbridge as a homemaker and was a member of the Lockbridge United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence M. Hicks; a daughter, Gwendolyn "Dote" Hicks McGrady and seven brothers, Ott, Dock, Tressie, Bud, Roy Coy and Ray Brooks. Survivors include four sons, Guy Hicks and wife Joyce of Shady Spring, Arlie Hicks and wife Leona of Princeton, Lawrence Keith Hicks and wife Louise of Lockbridge and Connie Hicks and wife Louise of Crystal Spring, Miss.; two sisters, Violet Daniels of Lester and Gail Kair of Aurora, Colo.; a son-in-law, Raymond McGrady of Daniels; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Smathers Funeral Home Chapel, Rainelle with the Rev. Elmo Alderman officiating. Burial will follow in Dequasie Cemetery, Lockbridge. McClanahan passed away Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at home following a short illness. Born Oct. 18, 1927 at Backus Mt.., he was the son of the late Cora Goins and Okey McClanahan. Mr. McClanahan was a retired steel plater, a member of Sewell Valley Baptist Church of Rainelle and a U.S. Army Air Corps. Veteran. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Wilson and Mae Adkins and three brothers, Hersey, Okie and Kirby McClanahan. Survivors include his wife, Lucille Berry McClanahan; two daughters, Kathy Denson and husband Mike of Parker, Colo. and Katrina Lowery and husband Ed of Chicago, Ill.; one son, Ken McClanahan and wife Pam of St. Paul, Minn.; three sisters, Ina Young of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Jodie "Billy" Harrah of Carpentersville, Ill., and Ginger Collins of Ripley; two brothers, Tom McClanahan and wife Elsa of Lake Forrest, Ill., and Herman McClanahan of Baltimore; and four grandchildren, Katy and Michael Denson of Colo. and Megan and Timmy McClanahan of Minn. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Wallace and Wallace Chapel of Rainelle with the Rev. Gary Trout officiating. Burial will follow at the Ennis Cemetery at Red Springs.
