Register Herald Obituaries for August 10, 1999 Tom Brammer Thomas "Tom" Lee Brammer, 61, of Bradley, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born July 16, 1938, in Mabscott, he was the son of the late Boone B. and Cora Estaline Rickman Brammer. Mr. Brammer spent his childhood in Mabscott, settling in the Beckley area in 1948. He was of the Christian faith. He was a driver with the United Parcel Service, with 20 years of service, and was instrumental in establishing UPS routes in Greenbrier County. Mr. Brammer was a member of the Employer Teamsters Joint Council No. 84 and was a past union steward. He was an avid golfer, enjoying Pipestem and Grandview golf courses. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Bernard, James, Densil, and Ronald; and a sister, Evelyn Butler. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Leigh Ann) Brammer Belmont of Beckley; a son, Richard "Rick" Brammer of Upper Glade; a grandson, Richard Brammer; two brothers, Harold Brammer of Ronceverte, and Robert Brammer of Lewisburg; and four sisters, Bessie Gravely of Beckley, Bonnie Floyd of Bradley, Madeline Brammer and Goldie Brammer, both of Beckley. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Brian Pope officiating. Burial will follow in the old Mount Tabor Cemetery, Mount Tabor Road, Beckley. Carrie Lee Burns OCEANA - Carrie Lee Burns, 93, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at a Man hospital following a long illness. Born Jan. 1, 1906, in Kingsport, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Samuel E. Gooden and Sally Anderson Hale. Mrs. Burns was a homemaker and of the Protestant faith. She was an 89-year resident of McDowell County and a four-year resident of Oceana. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Albert Burns; a daughter, Gladys L. Givens; two brothers, Clarence Hale and Sammy Gooden; and three sisters, June Baldwin, Elsie Cantu and Beaulah Muncy. Survivors include two daughters, Margaret O. Rose and Betty B. Soltesz, both of Oceana; four brothers, Tom Hale of Davy, Lawrence Hale of Virginia, Lee Hale of Welch, and Paul Gooden of Kingsport, Tenn.; two sisters, Ruby Strupe of Havaco and Lena Newland of Kingsport; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Evans Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. Russell Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Iaeger Memorial Cemetery, Roderfield. 'Jim' Lawson CLIMAX SPRINGS, Mo. - James E. "Jim" Lawson, 60, formerly of Beckley, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, in a Kansas City, Mo., medical center. Born March 29, 1939, in Lanark, he was the son of the late Mayo and Carrie Roark Lawson. Mr. Lawson was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Beckley, then enlisted in the U.S. Army on Feb. 24, 1958. He served for three years and eight months, attained the rank of sergeant, and spent one tour of duty in Korea as part of the United Nations defense forces. He was discharged Oct. 4, 1961. He married Audrea Evans, making their home in Akron, Ohio, until moving to West Virginia where he became a regional supervisor for the Olen Mills Studios with 25 years of service. After the death of his wife, he moved to Climax Springs, where he started a photography business called Glamour Plus and served as president of the company. On April 11, 1998, he married Shelia Knox and they made their home in Climax Springs. In West Virginia, he was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pat Girvin in 1993. Survivors include his wife, Shelia Knox Lawson; four sons, Davie Lawson of Climax Springs, James Lawson of Sacramento, Calif., Frank Evans of Beckley, and Dan Evans of Akron, Ohio; two daughters, Donna Lane of Rosewell, New Mexico, and Debbie Miles of Beckley; 10 grandchildren; three brothers, Earl Lawson of Douglasville, Ga., the Rev. Davie Lawson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Nick Lawson of East Bend, N.C.; four sisters, Jacqueline Richmond, Ruby Bennett, and Jewel Lawson, all of Beckley, and Juanita Henrich of Elizabeth, Pa., his father-in-law, Gene Knox of Climax Springs, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services were 11 a.m. Aug. 6, at the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, Mo., with the Rev. J.D. Parks and the Rev. Dave Lawson officiating. Burial followed in the Cable Ridge Cemetery near Edwards, Mo. Arrangements by Reser Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St., Warsaw, Mo. Richard T. Webb BARGER SPRINGS - Richard Thomas "Richie" Webb, 28, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999. Born Sept. 27, 1970, in Union, he was the son of Thomas C. and Shirley Meadows Webb of Barger Springs. Mr. Webb was an employee for S.S.F. Construction Company, and was a 1989 graduate of Hinton High School. He was a lifelong resident of Summers County. Other survivors include a brother, Brian Webb and his wife, Jennifer of Barger Springs; a sister, Chelsie Webb of Barger Springs; maternal grandparents, Carl and Louise Meadows of Barger Springs; two nephews; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel, Hinton, with the Rev. Douglas Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Barger Springs Cemetery.
