Born June 10, 1920, at Bud Mountain, he was the son of the late Lewis and Cora Lusk Belcher. Mr. Belcher was a 45-year resident of Herndon Heights, an elder and a member of Friendship Baptist Association and New Hope Baptist Church, Bud Mountain. He was a retired disabled coal miner and a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Robertson of Beckley; two sons, David Belcher and his wife, Rhonda, of Dallas and Russell Belcher and his wife, Patricia, of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Sylvia Hamilton of Lebanon, Va.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at New Zion Baptist Church, Bud, with Elders Bryce Phillips and Russell McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton. Born Nov. 22, 1912, in Fayette County, he was the son of the late Fred and Nattie Tate Elam. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Adkins Elam. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Barbara Elam, and their children, Jennifer and Jonathan Elam; two stepsons, Clay Mynes of Florida and Daniel Mynes of Pennsylvania; a stepdaughter, Juanita McManamay of Beckley; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hayes FRANKFORD - Nancy Bright Wilson Hayes, 71, died at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, at The Brier, Fairlea, following a long illness. Born Nov. 21, 1927, in Frankford, she was the daughter of the late Raymond E. and India Higginbotham Bright. Mrs. Hayes was a lifelong member and former clerk of Frankford Presbyterian Church. She received her early education in Greenbrier County schools, graduating from Frankford High School, Greenbrier College for Women and Bureau University, Gainesville, Ga. For a short time, she taught school in Greenbrier County, was employed by the Federal Reformatory for Women in Alderson and Bluegrass Livestock Market. Mrs. Hayes was a homemaker and a member of the Frankford Community Education Outreach Service, formerly known as Extension Homemakers Club. She was a charter member of the Gen. Andrew Lewis Chapter of the National Daughters of the American Revolution, having served as regent from 1958-1961 and 1996-1997. She also chaired several committees with national recognition. She also served as Southern District director for the NDAR in West Virginia. Survivors include three sons, Charles E. Wilson and his wife, Janet, of Clebourne, Texas, William Stitch Wilson of Sabraton and Thomas Lynn Wilson and his wife, Vickie, of Ridge Manor, Fla.; two stepsons, Joseph Hayes and his wife, Paige, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jeff Hayes and his wife, Sheila, of Albemarle, N.C.; two grandchildren, Jesse and Tracy Wilson; six stepgrandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Susan Hayes of Lewisburg. Arrangements by High Lawn Funeral Home, Oak Hill. Edward McGuire FAYETTEVILLE - Edward McGuire, 80, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born March 27, 1919, in Gauley Bridge, he was the son of the late James McGuire and Ethel Eagle McGuire. Mr. McGuire was a disabled coal miner and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corps. Survivors include his wife, Beulah May Holcomb McGuire; two sons, Patrick L. of Montgomery and Timothy E. at home; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Mr. McGuire donated his body to medical science. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Alliance Church, 914 Central Ave., Oak Hill, with Pastor Fred Joseph officiating. This was his request in hopes of helping find a cure for this disease from which several members of his family suffers. Levosia Mealy GARTEN - Levosia Mealy, 93, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at an Oak Hill care center following a long illness. Born May 2, 1906, in Pratt City, Ala., she was the daughter of the late George and Lela Townsend. Mrs. Mealey was a homemaker and a member of Mount Zion Baptist, Garten, where she was a member of the senior choir, usher board, Missionary Society, Ladies Aid Society, New River District, New River District Chorus and the West Virginia Quartet Convention. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hembry Mealy; and her children, Allie Sledge and Fred Tucker. Survivors include three sons, E. Ben and his wife, Jean, and Jim Davis, all of Birmingham, Ala., and Milton Tucker and his wife, Lillian, of Fayetteville, Ga.; three daughters, Martha Debnam and her husband, Clarence, of Raleigh, N.C., Josephine Wooten and her husband, Alvin, and Phyllis Gallman and her husband, Wyman, all of Garten; three adopted children, Kevin Mealy of Lexington, Ky., Levosia Pounds and her husband, Larry, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Anthony Mealy and his wife, Carolita, of Lexington, Ky.; 26 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Born May 2, 1920, in West Hartleypool, England, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas and Mae Richardson. Mrs. Pack was a homemaker and had been a resident of Matheny since 1947. She was a past member of Rock Castle Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Pack. William "Sonny" Parsons CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. - William Boyd "Sonny" Parsons, 67, formerly of Fayetteville, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, at his home following a short illness. Born Jan. 5, 1932, in Powellton, he was the son of the late Rev. Ralph and Margaret F. Bailey Parsons. Mr. Parsons was a retired outdoor advertiser, a member of Christian Missionary Church, Carolina Beach, and a member of the Carolina Beach VFW. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Garrett. Survivors include his wife, Susan Lynn Parsons; two sons, Bryan "Billy" Parsons of West Plains, Mo., and Joshua Parsons at home; four daughters, Terri Hoehn of Fridley, Minn., Michele Parker of Chaska, Minn., Annette Cavendish of Fayetteville and Tracey Griffin of Wilmington, N.C.; five brothers, Arnold "Pete" and Ralph E. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Mae Wilson Underwood; two sons, Dallas N. and Thomas L. Underwood; two brothers, George I. and Andrew J. Underwood; and a sister, Generva Beckett. Survivors include a son, Gregory I. Underwood and his wife, Deborah, of Beckley; a daughter, Oney Walls and her husband, Alex, of Daniels; a sister, Ruby Turner of Florida; and five grandchildren, Nathan, Sarah and Amber Underwood, and Krista and Amanda Walls.
