Born May 11, 1945, at Prosperity, he was the son of the late Jess and Mae Minerva Plumley Adkins. Mr. Adkins was an employee of Lennox Inc. and was a member of the House of Prayer in Columbus, Ohio. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Dorothy Workman Adkins; two sons, Alan Adkins and wife Teresa of Columbus, Ohio, and Stephen Adkins and wife Amy of Grove City, Ohio; one brother, Jesse T. Adkins of Daytona, Fla.; two sisters, Dreama Lyons and husband Homer of Shady Spring and Glenna "Toots" Bennett and husband Wesley of Lorrain, Ohio; a foster sister, Betty Vandall and husband Ronald of Logan, Ohio; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the House of Prayer in Columbus, Ohio. Burial will follow at the Obetz Cemetery in Obetz, Ohio. Gregory, 72, of Jumping Branch, died 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at his home following a long illness. Born April 25, 1927, at Wallins Creek, Ky., he was the son of the late Elisha and Mary Simpson Gregory. Mr. Gregory was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired foreman with the CSX Corp. of Cincinnati, Ohio, following 34 1/2 years of service. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Amon and Nay Gregory; and an infant sister. Survivors include his wife of eight years, Carol Harvey Gregory at home; four daughters, Jewel Lynn Gregory at home, Carol Nicole Meador and husband, Steve, of Jumping Branch, Mary Burton and husband, Robert, and Norma Wagoner both of Cincinnati; three grandsons, Steven Elisha Wade Meador, Richard Burton and Robby Brandt and wife Regina; one granddaughter, Patricia Wagoner; two great-granddaughters, one great-grandson and two stepgranddaughters. Plumley Mary Margaret Plumley, of Beckley, formerly of North Beach, Md., died Friday, Aug. 13, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born in Mammoth, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Margaret Johnson Wood. Mrs. Plumley was a retired upholstery factory seamstress, where she retired in North Beach, Md. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Plumley. Irene Surrett Skaggs VICTOR - Irene Surrett Skaggs, 81, passed away Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, at an Oak Hill hospital, following a short illness. Born March 5, 1918, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Morgan Surrett and Welba Nora Vandall Surrett. Mrs. Skaggs was retired from the Kroger Co., of Gauley Bridge, with over 20 years of service, an active member of Hopewell Baptist Church. She was raised in Mahan and was a longtime resident of Hopewell and Ansted. She graduated from Kingston High School in 1937 as salutatorian. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry L. Skaggs, Feb. 28, 1981. Survivors include two brothers, Morgan Surrett and wife Reba of Westland, Mich., and Tom Surrett and wife Sylvia of Westerville, Ohio; two aunts, Alice Crist of Ansted and Laura Hill of Dunbar; many nephews, nieces and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Taylor; one son, Ernest "Bud" Taylor; two grandsons, Benny and Bobby Dale Taylor; two brothers, Gwyn and Glen Sexton. Survivors include two sons, Gene Taylor and wife Pearl of Pineville and Edmond E. Tommy Jay Vereen PRINCETON - Tommy Jay "Tom" Vereen, of the Gardner-Princeton Road, passed away Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at the Princeton Community Hospital. Born at Red Springs, N.C., he was the son of the late Robert and Peggy Vereen, as well as his adopted parents, the late Sam and Bessie Sessions. Mr. Vereen was a retired truck driver and had been a resident of Princeton for the past 27 years. He was a member of the Rich Creek Baptist Church at Spanishburg. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Anna Ruth Blankenship Vereen; two sons, Ricky Vereen and wife Melissa and Russell Vereen and wife Diana all of Princeton; one grandson, Joshua Vereen; one granddaughter, Roxanna Vereen; two stepgranddaughters, Tiffany and Ashley Davis; one sister, Virginia Thompson of Lumberton, N.C.
