Born April 11, 1929, in Carswell, he was the son of the late George and Sarah Bishop. Mr. Bishop was a former truck driver for Mulenax Refrigerated Transport and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife, Sibyl Buckland Bishop; a son, Dale Bishop of Red Sulphur Springs; two brothers, Melvin Bishop and his wife, Pauline, of Peterstown and Jimmie Bishop and his wife, Joyce, of Lindside; two sisters, Vivian Coffman of Ronceverte and Ethel Butler and her husband, Freddie, of Greenville; and a granddaughter, Nicia Bishop of Cleveland. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, with the Rev. Tommy Mounts and Evangelist Roger Hatfield officiating. Omar Bowyer GREEN BANK - Omar Bowyer, 72, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, at Thomas Memorial Hospital following a short illness. Born Nov. 30, 1926, in Nuttallburg, he was the son of the late Omer Allen and Pruda Davis Bowyer. Mr. Bowyer was a retired technical specialist and purchasing agent for the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, where he started as a telescope operator. He was chief engineer for radio stations WJLS in Beckley and WBKW. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Allen Bowyer; and a sister, Betty Bowyer Brown. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Rose E. Tremor Bowyer; two sons, the Rev. Ronald E. Bowyer of Moorefield and John Kent Bowyer of Gastonia, N.C.; two daughters, Jetta Coleman of Greensboro, N.C., and Marlene Terry of Seminole, Fla.; a brother, James L. Bowyer of Mount Nebo; a sister, Mary Bowyer of Charleston; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Green Bank United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cook MATHENY - Susie E. Stewart Cook, 68, died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, in a Charleston hospital following a sudden illness. Born July 8, 1931, in Jessie, she was the daughter of the late Roy Clayton and Lula Jane Brown Stewart. Mrs. Cook was a homemaker and a member of Matheny Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Willard Cook; four brothers, Clayton, Elmer, Acie and Buster Stewart, and two sisters, Bessie Wesley and Viola Barnett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoy G. Craghead; a son, William "Bill" Craghead; a daughter, Alice Raines; two brothers, Jim and Gordon Gore; and three sisters, Mona Speakman, Mable Jones and Dixie Gore. Higginbotham FAYETTEVILLE - Linda Ellen Buttrick Higginbotham, 51, of Route 1, died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at her home following a short illness. Born Nov. 13, 1947, in Summerlee, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Madeline Fedukovich Buttrick. Mrs. Higginbotham was a pharmacy technician at Wal-Mart in Oak Hill. Survivors include her husband, Lewis James Higginbotham Jr.; a son, John C. Higginbotham and his wife, Kathy, of Route 1, Fayetteville; a granddaughter, Alexandria Rose Higginbotham of Route 1, Fayetteville; and a brother, David Buttrick of Route 1, Fayetteville. Born Aug. 10, 1913, in Flat Top, she was the daughter of the late Dr. E.C. and Orie B. Clark McComas. Miss McComas retired as a teacher from the Raleigh County Board of Education following 39 years of service. She last taught at Shady Spring Junior High School. During her tenure she also taught at Kilarney Elementary, Beaver Elementary and served as teacher-principal of Odd Elementary School. She was a graduate of Shady Spring High School and Concord College and earned her masterıs degree from West Virginia University. She was a member of the National and West Virginia Retired Teachers Association and was a former member of the National, West Virginia and Raleigh County Education Association. Miss McComas was a member of Coal City Chapter No. 136, Order of the Eastern Star, Judea White Shrine Chapter No. 13, United Methodist Temple, Beckley, and the Beckley Womanıs Club. She was a lifelong resident of Flat Top. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph C. McComas. Born Feb. 16, 1923, in Welch, she was the daughter of the late Henry Lawrence and Lena Brewster Milam. Mrs. Spangler was a former employee for Best Furniture Co. in Welch and was a caregiver for the elderly for many years in the Princeton area. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry W. Spangler; a son, Charles Arlen Spangler; a sister, Garnett Grindle; and five brothers, Lawrence "Buster," Charles, Jack, Russell and Curtis Milam. Survivors include a son, William B.
