CHARLES, Mo. - Eugene Cochran, 71, formerly of Bolt, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, in Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, following a short illness. Born May 25, 1928, in Grayson, Ky., he was the son of the late Gaydon and Reva K. Moore Cochran. Mr. Cochran was a retired machinist for the Chrysler Corporation in St. Louis. He was a member of the DAV Chapter I, in St. Louis, and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Coinflict. He was a member of the Bethel Pentecostal Tabernacle, Lemay, Mo. He had spent his childood in Logan County, and Bolt, and had made his home in the St. Louis area since 1971. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Henry F. Amick; and a sister, Maxine Racusin. Survivors include two daughters, Sabrina Cochran of Sebula, Iowa, and Nannette Cook of St. Charles, Mo.; two sons, Mike Cochran of Lathrop, Mo., and Danny Cochran of St. Charles, Mo.; three sisters, Jacqueline Sauls of Crab Orchard, Ruth A. Benoit of St. Charles, Mo., and Edith L. Harris of Adrian, Mich.; and seven grandchildren. Services were conducted Saturday, Aug. 14, at Winds of Pentecostal Church in St. Charles, Mo. Cook Sr. Harless Anderson Cook Sr., 67, of Hotchkiss, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, in a Richmond, Va., hospital following a short illness. Born Oct. 28, 1931, in Hotchkiss, he was the son of the late James L. and Martha Bradbury Cook. Mr. Cook was a retired preparation plant foreman for Slab Fork Coal Co. He was a member of the Mullens Church of God and enjoyed woodworking. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a lifetime resident of Raleigh County. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond Cook, Lloyd Cook, Paul Cook and James Lacy Cook Jr. Survivors include his wife, Jewell Marie Blevins Cook; three sons, Glen Lee Cook Sr. and his wife, Sandra, of Lost River, Harless Anderson Cook Jr. and his wife, Claudia, of Mallory, and Timothy Ray Cook and his wife, Debra, of Hotchkiss; and eight grandchildren, Jonathan Cook, Monetta Cook, Glen Cook Jr., Jesse Cook, Miranda Cook, Brandon Cook, Kevin Cook and Keith Cook. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. J.L. Riffe officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Chelsey Grace Craddock Chelsey Grace Craddock, 5-month-old infant daughter of William and Brenda Cunningham Craddock, of Stotesbury, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, at her home following a short illness. She was born March 17, 1999, in Beckley. Other survivors include two sisters, Sherrie Lynn McKinney, and Kayla Sue Craddock, both of Stotesbury; her paternal grandparents, Tommy Lee Craddock Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Maple Fork; her maternal grandparents, Albert Ray and Margaret Cunningham of Amigo; and her paternal great-grandmother, Thelma Boyd of Bluefield, Va. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Mount Hope, with the Rev. Charlie Bolen officiating. Burial will follow in the Craddock Cemetery, Maple Fork. Craven Mary Ellen Craven, 86, of Beckley, died 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, in a Fayetteville care center following a long illness. Born March 27, 1913, in Glen Rogers, she was the daughter of the late Oddey Williams and Sarah E. Hornsby Williams. Mrs. Craven was a homemaker, had lived most of her life at Crab Orchard, and was of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Craven. Survivors include a son, Paul E. Craven and his wife, Ella Mae, of Beckley; a grandson, Paul E. Craven II and his wife, Brenda; a granddaughter, Terri Savisky and her husband, Lewis; and five great-grandchildren. Committal services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Blue Ridge Mausoleum Chapel of Peace with Mrs. Craven's nephew, George Williams Jr., presenting the eulogy. Born Aug. 10, 1915, in Oscar, he was the son of the late Loman Spurgeon and Pearl McMillion Faulkner. Mr. Faulkner was a decorated World War II U.S. Army veteran, having received the Bronze Star for heroism under fire. He was a 52-year member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Enon Baptist Church. He was a retired school bus driver of 29 years, a retired service station owner and operator in Frankford, and a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bina Ray Faulkner; a brother, Ardeth Faulkner; and two sisters, Grate Hammons and Glenna Pickering. Survivors include a daughter, Sherry Freeman and her husband, Gary, of Hurricane; a son, Steve Faulkner and his wife, Cookie, of Frankford; three grandsons, Mike Faulkner and his wife, Sandy, of Staunton, Va., Ben Freeman of Hurricane and Jason Freeman of Hurricane; a great-grandson, Alex Faulkner; a great-granddaughter, Jenna Faulkner; two stepgrandsons, Chris and Richie Carpenter of Staunton, Va.; and three sisters, Arlene Buttery of Baltimore, Md., Bernice Adams of Aberdeen, Md., and Janice Hayes and her husband, Jim, of Lewisburg. Jennings Robert Clarence Jennings, 79, of MacArthur, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, at his home following a short illness. Born Aug. 23, 1919, in Prosperity, he was the son of the late Malcomb Howard and Carrie Osborne Jennings. Mr. Jennings was a lifetime resident of the Beckley area and attended local schools. He was last employed by Kayo Oil in Charleston. He was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil E. Jennings. Jesse Stuart McLain OAK HILL - Jesse Stuart McLain, 93, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, in an Oak Hill care center following a long illness. Born July 6, 1906 in Oak Hill, he was the son of the late Jesse Greene and Mary Margaret Shreve McLain. Mr. McLain was a retired outside foreman having worked for Appalachian Power Company for 42 years. He was also a lifelong member of the Jones Ave. First Church of God, Oak Hill, and was graduate of Coyne Electrical Institute, Chicago. He was preceded in death by a brother, Russell McLain; two infant brothers; seven sisters, Hallie Calhoun, Nona Gainer, Mable Ferguson, Ruth Duke, Hessie McLain, Gola Smith and Gladys Cornell. Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Evelyn B. Thomas McLain; a son, Edward McLain and wife Phyllis of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Joann Burgess and husband Arthur of Oak Hill; a sister, Glenna Godby of Oak Hill; five grandchildren, Merry and husband Carl Hanning of Hilltop, Stephanie and husband Bill Barker of Jacksonville, Fla., Lyn and husband Kirk Lichty of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., the Rev. Mrs. Price was a homemaker, a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church, Glen White, member of the Missionary Society, and was active in Sunday school. She attended Raleigh County schools. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Price, in 1975; five sisters and three brothers. Survivors include two brothers, William Wright and his wife, Zelma, of Beckley, and Edward Wright and his wife, Audrey, of Beckley; two sisters, Frances Knight of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Geraldine Phipps and her husband, W.E., of Glen White; three sisters-in-law, Annie Montgomery of Beckley, Corrine Price of Glen White and Leona Downy of Littleton, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Born Dec. 29, 1956, in Pontiac, Mich., he was the son of Robert Lee Smith and Maxine Louise Mann, both of Beaver. Mr. Smith worked in a foundry. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Paul Smith. Survivors include a daughter, Ann marie Smith of Beckley; two sons, Austin and Adam Smith, both of Ravenna, Ohio; two brothers, Keith Smith and his wife, Betty, of Wheeling and James Smith of Ocala, Fla.; and a sister, Carol Morgan and her husband, Leonard, of East Moline, Ill.
