Born Oct. 16, 1925, in Dameron, she was the daughter of the late Haven and May Newman Dickens. Mrs. Collins spent her childhood at Sandlick and Eccles and was a homemaker. She was a member of Mabscott Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, Andrew Lester. Survivors include her husband, George "Snowton" Collins; three sons, Larry Collins of Beckley, Roger Lester of Delaware and David Lester of Maryland; three daughters, Gloria Vellucci of North Carolina and Carol Evans and Fredia Beck, both of Pennsylvania; four sisters, Sylvia Herron of Shady Spring and Stella Hamm, Ruby Fedock and Loretta Murphy, all of Virginia; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. E.G. "Buzz" Keller Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Arrangements by Melton Mortuary, Beckley. Mary Vella McClung Mary Vella McClung, 75, of Springdale, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 24, at home of colon cancer. She was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Lawn. She was the daughter of the late Edgar P. and Emma Hicks Shaffer. Mrs. McClung was a homemaker. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Philip Vincent McClung, on Dec. 10, 1969. Surviving are two sons, Paul McClung of Meadow Bridge and Richard McClung of Springdale; three daughters, Linda Calvert of South Charleston, Judy Pizzey of London, England, and Debra Barnett of Springdale; seven grandchildren; a twin sister, Martha Veva Cox of Meadow Bridge; and two brothers, Carl Shaffer of Fayetteville and Vernon Shaffer of Biloxi, Miss. McCoy Dallas R. McCoy, 37, of Midway, formerly of Mead, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, following a short illness. Born Oct. 4, 1961, in Bristol, Pa., he was the son of the late Bobby McCoy Sr. and Charmie Reedy McCoy. Mr. McCoy was an automobile mechanic. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rebecca McCoy and Drema Shaffner. Survivors include four brothers, Danny and Lloyd McCoy, both of Mead, and Bobby and Rufus McCoy, both of Torneda, Va.; and two sisters, Sherry Vandall and her husband, Ricky, of Hinton and Barbara McGinnis and her husband, Charlie, of Fayetteville. McNeely, 79, of Bradley, died Monday, Aug. 23, 1999, at her home folllowing a long illness. Born March 12, 1920, in Pax, she was the daughter of the late William and Dove Melissa Cunningham Christian. Ms. McNeely was a homemaker and a member of Bradley Freewill Baptist Church. She was an avid quilter. She was a cook at Woodrow Wilson High School for seven years. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Flavil R. McNeely; and two daughters, Patricia Faye Gestewitz and Sharon Kay McNeely. Survivors include three sons, R. Darrell McNeely of Beckley, Eddie C. McNeely of Sand Branch and Randy D. McNeely of Scarbro; a daughter, Barbara Gay Smith of Bradley; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. "Chuck" Mitchell, 76, formerly of Beckley, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, at his home. He was born Aug. 31, 1922, in Kanawha County. Mr. Mitchell had lived most of his life in West Virginia until moving to Kansas City three years ago. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of the VFW. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge. He had been a local businessman in Beckley. Survivors include his wife, Marie Mitchell; two sons, Richard Lynn Clark of Watauga, Texas, and Everett Lee Clark Jr. of Durham, Kan.; three daughters, Susan Turk of Kansas City and Sandra Chance and Mary Beth Ringgo, both of Little Rock, Ark.; a half brother, Larry Mitchell of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a half sister, Susan Mitchell of Texas; and seven grandchildren. Plumley HILLTOP ‹ Omer Thomas Plumley, 83, died Monday, Aug. 23, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born Feb. 18, 1916, in Glade, he was the son of the late Cleveland and Dewie Bennette Plumley. Mr. Plumley was a retired coal miner and a member of Church of Jesus Christ, Hilltop. He was a member of the UMWA. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Marie Hume Plumley, on March 25, 1991; his second wife, Rosalie McGinnis Plumley, on July 14, 1999; and a sister, Bessie Ennis. Survivors include four sons, Omar T. Plumley of Douglasville, Ga., Vincent G. Plumley of Fredericksburg, Va., James E. Plumley of Hico and Gene Plumley of Atlanta; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Johnathan 'John' Pugh Johnathan "John" Wayne Pugh, 43, of Beckley, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, at his home following a sudden illness. Born Jan. 3, 1956, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Peggy Garrison Pugh and James E. Pugh of Eccles and the stepson of the Rev. Clemma Fuson Pugh. Mr. Pugh spent his childhood at Eccles, attended Trap Hill High School and was a graduate of the Academy of Careers and Technology, with a diploma in electronics technology and drafting. He was a former section foreman for Maple Meadow and War Eagle Corp. In his leisure time he was an avid softball player. Various leagues he played for included Wilkes Insurance Agency. He had been a resident of Beckley the past five years and was a member of Eccles Church of God. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Frank and Alice Pugh; and his maternal grandparents, Frank and Robena Garrison. Other survivors besides his father and stepmother include a daughter, Kandis Nicole Pugh at home; a stepson, Michael Bennett of Beckley; a sister, Cynthia Pugh Bennett and her husband, Danny, of Eccles; seven brothers, James Pugh Jr. of Cherry Hill, N.J., Frank Pugh and his wife, Brenda, of Chesterfield, Va., David Pugh and his wife, Faye Ann, of Surveyor, the Rev. Reynolds ARLINGTON, Wash. ‹ Harry Lee Reynolds, 58, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at Providence Hospital in Everett. Born Sept. 11, 1940, in Brooklyn, he was the son of Harry and Thelma Reynolds. Mr. Reynolds was raised in Fayetteville and graduated from high school in 1958. He entered the U.S. Navy and served until 1977, retiring from NAS Whidbey VAQ 137. He served at several U.S. bases and the USS Constellation (in Vietnam), USS Kitty Hawk, USS Enterprise and the USS America. He married Clydean Lila Hutchins on Sept. 5, 1963, in Monroe. They lived in Oak Harbor, Ga., Alameda, Calif., and moved to Mount Vernon in 1971. He was a newspaper distributor for the Seattle Times from 1977 to 1979 and began with the U.S. Post Office in 1980. Other survivors besides his wife include his three daughters, Kathleen Butler of Lynnwood, LeAnn McGahan of Kenai, Ark., and Elizabeth Dunivan of Rota, Spain; three brothers, Bill Reynolds and Lewis Reynolds, both of Fayetteville, and Bob Reynolds of Oak Hill; a sister, Kathy Buckland of Fayetteville; his mother, Thelma Reynolds of Fayetteville; and four grandsons. Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Hawthorne Funeral Chapel, 1825 E. College Way, Mount Vernon, with the Masonic Lodge officiating. Military honors by Russell Sherriff Post No. 933 will follow. Born March 1, 1937, in Monroe County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Ora Bridges Gunnoe. Mrs. Rider had lived most of her life in the Ballengee and Marie areas. She had worked as a cook at the Dairy Queen in Hinton, was the former owner and clerk at Davis Grocery at Ballengee and had worked at Foxes Market and Restaurant in Hinton. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Boyd and Claude "C.J." Gunnoe; and two sisters, Louise Gunnoe and Virginia Bradberry. Survivors include a daughter, Anita Tabor of Marie; a son, Maj. Floyd Light of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Pauline Crawford of Ballard and Betty Harris of Coal City; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Born Aug. 28, 1915, in Tazewell, Va., he was the son of the late Robert Stanley and Jenny Bee Lockhart Wingo. Mr. Wingo was a retired operator of the Riverside America Gas Station in Mullens, with 45 years of service, and had been a 65-year resident of Mullens. He was a member of Mullens Church of God on Black Eagle Road. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 1/2 years, Mildred C. White Wingo, on July 25, 1999. Survivors include two daughters, Nora Kay Webb of Mullens and Evelyn Bishop and her husband, Bob, of Mullens; a son, Daniel Wingo and his wife, Marian, of Mullens; three brothers, Ruel J. Wingo of Roanoke, Va., Warren Wingo of South Charleston and Stanley B. Wingo of Salem, Va.; six grandchildren, Jeffrey A. Bishop, Michael W.
