Register Herald Obituaries for August 30, 1999 Effie Irene Altizer SYLVANIA, Ga. ­ Effie Irene Grizzle Altizer, 80, formerly of Rainelle, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, in Screven County Hospital, Sylvania, Ga., following a short illness. Born July 20, 1919, in Wilder, Va., she was the daughter of the late Seldon Harmon Grizzle and the late Pearl Bryan Rasnake Grizzle. Mrs. Altizer was formerly employed by Shelton's Rexall Drug Store in Rainelle and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rainelle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Cullen Altizer, on Sept. 24, 1988; two sisters, Lisa "Boots" Grossl and Evela Griffith; and a brother, Dewey Edward Grizzle. Survivors include a daughter, Carol Sue Parker of Sylvania, Ga.; two sons, Jim Altizer of Ronceverte and Ken Altizer of Mount Nebo; three sisters, Janice Waddell of Ponchatoula, La., Helen Artist of Glendale, Ariz., and Patty Byrd of San Bernardino, Calif.; seven grandchildren, John and Steve Altizer, Dawn, James and Russell Parker, and Mike and Steve Altizer; and five great-grandchildren, Adam, Ryan, Breanna, Zachary Altizer and Kameron Parker. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with the Rev. Harold Francis officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville. Cleve Stanley Cecil Cleve Stanley "Buddy" Cecil, 58, of Fayetteville, died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, at his residence following a short illness. Born Dec. 14, 1940, at Price Hill, he was the son of Venie Totten Cecil of Sweeneysburg Road, Beckley, and the late Auldy E. Cecil. Mr. Cecil was a furniture mover and a member of AARP. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Bates Cecil of Fayetteville; two daughters, Venie Cecil and Evelyn Vigil both of Detroit, Mich.; a son, Dan Cecil of Detroit, Mich.; two stepdaughters, Susan Logsdon and Christina Koon both of Charleston; a stepson, Charles Hatcher Jr. of Charleston; three stepsons, Wayne Gallegos and Bill Gallegos both of Grants, N.M., and Timo Gallegos of Alabama; two stepdaughters, Sandra Gallegos of Arizona and Wanda Gallegos of Grants, N.M.; three brothers, Gene Cecil and wife Cathy of Sterling Heights, Mich., Larry Cecil and wife Sharon of Odessa, Texas, and Auldy "Cliff" Cecil and wife Frances of Shady Spring; seven sisters, Mary "Susie" French and husband Shirl of Covis, N.M., Joyce Cash of Apex, N.C., Rhonda Porter and husband, James, of Apex, N.C., Linda Miller and husband, Jerry, of Sweeneysburg, Janice Stover and husband, William, of Bradley, Connie Redden and husband, Samuel, of Flat Top and Toni Bennett and husband, Randy, of St. Albans; and 19 grandchildren. Beulah Frazier CORNETTSVILLE, Ky. ­ Beulah Frazier, 85, formerly of Pax, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, in a Kentucky medical center following a long illness. Born Sept. 7, 1913, in Pax, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Clara Brunk Blake. Mrs. Frazier was a retired Fayette County school teacher and a member of Long Branch United Methodist Church and Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Frazier. Survivors include a son, Charles M. Frazier of Cornettsville, Ky.; three sisters, Ruby Tyree of Parkersburg, Myrtle Stressman of Abilene, Texas, and Charlotte Severance of Fairfield, Ohio; two grandchildren, Charles Wayne Frazier of Hazard, Ky., and Christopher Paul Frazier of Cornettsville, Ky.; and one great-grandson, Dustin Kyle Frazier of Hazard, Ky. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Long Branch United Methodist Church, Pax, with the Rev. Harmon Davis and the Rev. Chalmer Abrams officiating. Carmie Ellen O'Dell QUINWOOD ­ Carmie Ellen O'Dell, 85, Snow Hill Road, Nicholas County, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born Oct. 15, 1913, at Hominy Falls, she was the daughter of the late Ance and Bessie Bragg O'Dell. Mrs. O'Dell had been a resident of Quinwood, Snow Hill Road, Green Valley, for 60 years. She was a member of Mt. Urim Baptist Church of Hominy Falls. Mrs. O'Dell was a former cook at Green Valley Grade School and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rozzle John O'Dell, in 1983; a sister, Mintie Hedger; and three brothers, Cecil O'Dell, Russell O'Dell and Arnold O'Dell. Survivors include a daughter, Etheline Tincher of Quinwood; a son, Rozzle O'Dell Jr. of Quinwood; a sister, Retha O'Dell of Nettie; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace and Wallace Chapel, Rainelle, with the Rev. Troy George and the Rev. Houston Boothe officiating. Burial will follow in the Carl Cemetery at Carl. Linda Kaye Walls Linda Kaye Walls, 48, of Stephenson, died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, in an Oak Hill hospital following a long illness. Born April 18, 1951, at Mullens, she was the daughter of Frances Daniels Garretson of Mullens and the late Ivan Garretson. Mrs. Walls was a lifetime resident of Stephenson. She graduated from Mullens High School and attended Concord College. She was also a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Jackie Lee Walls of Stephenson; a son, Ivan Mark Walls of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Drema Farley of Oak Hill; three brothers, Dr. Charles Garretson and wife Linda of Ansted, Ivan Ray Garretson of Princeton and Hillard Garretson of Mullens; and one half brother, Gene Daniels of Green Cove Springs, Fla. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Rev. Hugh McKinney officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements by Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens.
