Born Nov. 15, 1914, in Goodwill, she was the daughter of the late James and Ida Mae Taylor Taylor. Mrs. Bailey had been a resident of Rolfe for 13 years, was a member of Rolfe Pentecostal Holiness Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Estill Bailey; a son, Bobby Martin; a granddaughter, Melissa Bailey; a great-granddaughter, Courtney Bailey; and a grandson, Wayne Martin. Boothe MOSLEY, Va. – Eula Martha Boothe, 84, formerly of Greenbrier County, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, in a nursing home in Amelia, Va. Born Sept. 28, 1915, in Frankford, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Mary McReynolds Boothe. Miss Boothe was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a member of Pilgrims Rest Primitive Baptist Church, Frankford, and was a resident of Frankford until 1986. She then moved to Maxwelton and in 1997 moved to a retirement home in Richmond, Va. She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters, W. Sylvester Boothe, Jay P. Boothe, William M. Boothe, Leonard W. Boothe, Vicie Green, Maud Smithson, Belle Rowan, Annie Wade and Margaret Boone. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. Leonard Boothe of Staunton, Va.; a brother-in-law, Joe Boone of Winfield; 13 nieces and nephews; 24 great-nieces and great-nephews; several great-great nieces and great-great nephews; and many friends. Brown Jr., 84, formerly of Mullens, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, in Orange Park Medical Center following a brief illness. Born Sept. 19, 1915, in Princeton, he was the son of the late Grace Gilpin Brown and Boyd B. Brown. Mr. Brown was a member of Mullens Methodist Church, Mullens Masonic Lodge No. 151 F&AM, Beni Kedem Shrine Temple and Mullens Moose Lodge No. 750. He retired from Norfolk and Southern Railroad. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Clarabell Waddell, Mildred Mullins and Bertha Farley; and a son-in-law, Bill Myers. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ethel Hickok Brown, Moosehaven Ryan Hall, 1701 Park Ave., Orange Park, Fla., 32073; two daughters, Anna Brown Myers of Panama City, Fla., and Wanda Brown LeClair and her husband, Henry, of Castaic, Calif.; two brothers, Ernest E. Born April 8, 1921, in Long Branch, she was the daughter of the late Norvell and Gertrude Williams. Mrs. Garrett was a licensed practical nurse and had been a resident of Carson City for the past 10 years. During her spare time she enjoyed bowling and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Beckley and the Raleigh County Hospice program. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Gialdella; her second husband, Charles Garrett; a daughter, Mary Lisa Reed; two sisters, Leah Kisley and Janavee Stoots; and a brother, Thomas Williams. Born Sept. 16, 1922, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Wilson Farley and Clara Elizabeth Neely Farley. Mrs. Garten was a homemaker and former cook for the Raleigh County Board of Education at Piney View Elementary School and Appalachian Bible College. She was a member of Calloway Heights Baptist Church and had been a resident of Piney View for more than 50 years. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by one brother and seven sisters. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Ronald H. Garten; a son, Ronald H. Born Jan. 10, 1918, in Glen Jean, she was the daughter of the late Fred F. and Carrie Calloway Jasper. Miss Jasper was a retired teacher of home economics at Collins High School, Oak Hill, with 35 years of service. She was a longtime member of Oak Hill Baptist Church, the Shirley Donnelly Sunday school class and former choir member. Miss Jasper was a graduate of Mount Hope High School and Marshall University. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marian Jasper Thompson and Margaret Jasper Tissue; and a brother, Fred W. Jasper. Survivors include her nieces: Marilyn Thompson Montgomery, Beverly Thompson Francesa and Susan Jasper Adams; her nephews: Fred W. Born March 2, 1910, in Keyrock, she was the daughter of the late William Pendry and Mary Justice Pendry. Ms. Moore was a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church, Degree of Honor Lodge and the Orchard Valley Women's Club. She was a sales clerk for The Hub/Vogue Department Store and EM Payne Co. She was the last surviving member of her immediate famliy. She was preceded in death by her husband, James William "Bill" Moore; three sons, Delano, Byron and Harold Moore; and two daughters; Colleen Hensley and Audrey Grose. Survivors include a son, Charles Robert Moore of Massillon; a daughter, Shelby Jean Pirkey of Dunkirk, Md.; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Born Nov. 30, 1928, in Dixie, he was the son of the late Harry Smarr and Bertha Hill Smarr. Mr. Smarr was a retired electrician and worked for Elkem Metals, Alloy Plant. He was a born again Christian and a member of Fayetteville Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 57 AF&AM, Fayetteville, and a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Drennen and Billie Smarr. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Anderson Smarr; a son, Juan A. Smarr and his wife, Terry, of Cross Lanes; two daughters, Robin Thomas and her husband, Jeffrey, and Jill Ann Byrd, all of Glen Allen, Va.; five sisters, Hariette Sizemore, Betty Clonch and Hope Elswick, all of Dixie, Joanne Woods of Akron, Ohio, and Mona Baker of Ross, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Aaron, Cory-Ann and Cody Smarr, Kyle Thomas and Briannan Byrd. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Kenna Vass, July 1, 1966; a son, Charles Vass, Feb. 1, 1964; a grandson, Ralph Steele, July 24, 1988; two sisters, Elsie Persinger and Nannie Ward; and a brother, Clarence Reynolds.
