Register Herald Obituaries for December 6, 1999 Maxwell Ray Brunty Maxwell Ray Brunt, 74, of Clear Fork, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, at his residence following a long illness. Born October 28, 1925, at Baileysville, he was the son of the late Willie and Lena Jane Hill Brunty. Mr. Brunty was retired from Consolidated Natural Gas and was a World War II Army veteran. He was of the Baptist faith and a lifelong resident of Wyoming County. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ross, Andy and Jesse Brunty. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Nannie McGuire Brunty, one son, Michael Ray Brunty and his wife, Rena, of Clear Fork; one daughter, Jennifer Lynn Ennis and her husband, Garry, of Albany, Ohio; one brother, Guy Brunty of Baileysville; and four grandchildren, Michael Travis Brunty, Trista Leigh Brunty, Brian Douglas Ennis and Michele Lynn Ennis. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Evans Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. Erwin Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in Hill Cemetery at Meeting House Branch. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at Evans and Evans Funeral directors, Oceana. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Wyoming County Honor Guard. Arrangements by Evans and Evans Funeral Directors, Oceana. ---------- Phillip Jean Cozort Mullens – Phillip Jean Cozort , 83, of 511 Church St., died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, in Beckley Veterans' Hospital following a long illness. Born Oct. 20, 1916, in Oceana, he was the son of the late Wade and Maude Scott Cozort. Mr. Cozort was a resident of Mullens for the past 53 years. He was a World War II Army Veteran and a member of the Mullens United Methodist Church and Mullens Moose Lodge. He was a retired railroad engineer, having last worked for the Virginian and N&W Railroads with 40 years of service. He was preceded in death by his son, Phillip J. Cozort, on Aug. 31, 1999. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Louise Simms Cozort of Mullens; a brother, Glen Cozort of Beaver; two grandchildren, Tiffany Lester and her husband Daniel of Mullens and Summer Cozort of Mullens; and two nieces, Kris Greene and Kim Miller, both of Beaver. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, Beckley, with the Rev. Brent Brown officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum. Born May 19, 1920, in Ivanhoe, Va., she was a daughter of the late James Albert Archer and Kate Monahan Archer. Mrs. Davidson was a retired LPN from Pinecrest Hospital and was of the Christian faith. Her hobbies included dressing dolls for Mac's Toy Fund and crocheting. She was preceded in death by one son, Vernon Davidson; and two brothers, Lawrence Archer and Jewett Archer. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Homer L. Davidson of Beckley; one son, Carmey C. Davidson and his wife Barbara of Jacksonville, Fla.; one daughter, Linda D. Nuckols and her husband Tom of Daniels; one brother, Clarence "Tom" Archer of Beckley; four sisters, Louise Pegram of Coal City, Virginia Archer of Zanesville, Ohio, Ethel Dickerson of Duncan Falls, Ohio, and Madeline Price of Zanesville, Ohio; six grandchildren, Marcia Arenz, Lynn Wilson, Chris Nuckols, Wendy Walker, Kellie Davidson and Ashleigh Nuckols; and four great-grandhchildren, Monikah Wilson, Kelsey Walker, Conner Wilson and Kyle Walker. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley, with Elder Dale Mills officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley. Born Dec. 8, 1930, at Clintonville, he was the son of Alta Jane Henson Harvey and the late William Kenna Harvey. Mr. Harvey was a U.S. Marine veteran and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gayla Holland Harvey. Other survivors include a daughter, Elaine Altizer and husband Steve of Richmond, Va.; two sons, Alan Harvey and wife Beth of Asbury, and Jerry Harvey of Clintonville; a sister, Mary Catherine Loudermilk of Clintonville; two brothers, Earl Harvey of Clintonville, and Gerald Harvey of Livermore, Calif.; four grandchildren, Kristi Allen of Morgantown, Nick Harvey of Asbury, Ali Harvey of Asbury and Zachary Altizer of Richmond, Va. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel Sowder; two brothers, Frankie and Albert C. "Buck" Sowder; and a sister, Nellie Stark.
