Register Herald Obituaries for December 7, 1999 Woodrow W. Bonds Woodrow Wilson Bonds, 78, of Harper Heights, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born July 18, 1921, at Mammoth, he was the son of the late Thomas and Susan Ida Frye Bonds. Mr. Bonds had been a resident of Harper Heights for the past 13 years, coming from Eccles. He was a retired coal miner, cut timber for a living and had worked at the Raleigh County Sheltered Workshop. Mr. Bonds was of the Christian faith and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Icie Mae McMillion Bonds, on May 6, 1995; a son, Henry Wilson "Ricky" Bonds; a daughter, Kathy Cook; and a stepson, George Phillip McGraw. Mrs. Browning was a homemaker, a lifelong resident of Wyoming County, and a member of the Guyandotte Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit R. Browning. David Mickel, 53, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, in Thomas Memorial Hospital following a short illness. Born Jan. 27, 1946, at Beckley, he was the son of the late Cleo and Della Kerbwy Mickel. Mr. Mickel was captain of the Charleston Police Department. On Nov. 3, 1969, he attended the Charleston Police Training Academy; the positions he held included: April 16, 1969, Uniform Patrol; Jan. 7, 1974, Accident Investigation Bureau; March 2, 1980, Traffic Division commander; June 9, 1980, Criminal Investigation Division; April 25, 1982, Uniform Patrol; Feb. 26, 1984, training officer; Sept. 13, 1987, Uniform Patrol Division relief commander; Jan. 17, 1988, Uniform Patrol Division shift commander, Training/Special Services bureau chief, Support Services bureau chief, personnel officer, Administrative Services bureau chief; March 16, 1997, Uniform Services bureau chief; Aug. 23, 1998 to present, Special Projects director. He graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School, attended West Virginia State College, was a graduate of FBI National Academy, and went to numerous police schools and seminars. Mr. Mickel was a certified instructor for various police topics and was a certified driver, commander Boat Patrol. He was promoted to patrolman first class in 1974, sergeant in 1980, lieutenant in 1985 and captain in 1990. He was an active member of the Capitol City F.O.P. Lodge No. 74, member of the West Virginia Chiefs of Police Association and The International Association of Chiefs of Police. He was a member of the Kanawha Amateur Radio Club and an active member of the Kanawha Amateur Radio Emergency Services. He was active as a troop leader with Boy Scouts of America and was retired from the U.S. Army Reserves with 25 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Pat Gandee Mickel; a son, Christopher D. Born Sept. 1, 1909, at Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Charles Clifford Callaway and Ida Witt Callaway. Mrs. Moles was a homemaker and a former stenographer. She was a 1928 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and also a 1929 graduate of Mountain State Business College. She was a member of St. Mary's United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, where she was a former president, circle leader and district officer. Mrs. Moles was a member of the Beckley Women's Club and had been a resident of Beckley most of her life, having made her home in Elkins for the past year and a half. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther T. Moles, in 1975; a son, Gary "Eddie" Moles; a grandson, John Franklin Meredith; four brothers, Otis L. Callaway, B.C. "Cotton" Callaway, Howard H. Callaway and Charles C.
