Cox SALISBURY, N.C. - Gerald Wayne Cox, 27, formerly of Coal City, died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem, N.C., following injuries sustained in an accident. Born July 31, 1972, at Coal City, he was the son of Phyllis and Howard Cox of Coal City. Mr. Cox was a graduate of Independence High School and received training in electrical and radio repair and vocational electronics. He was a self-employed contractor. He was a member of Oak Grove Freewill Baptist Church. Other survivors include his wife, Patience Joaquim Cox; a daughter, Christen Alexandria Cox; two brothers, Gregory Cox of Salisbury and twin Gary Brian Cox of Coal City. Alpha Mae Lusk OCEANA - Alpha Mae Lusk, 89, died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at a Parkersburg nursing home. Born in Wyoming County, she was the daughter of the late Spurgeon and Nettie Cook. Mrs. Lusk was a member of Toneda Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil B. Lusk; a son, Orvice A. Lusk; three brothers, Lloyd Cook, Vannie Cook and Spurgeon Cook Jr.; and four sisters, Lura Dansey, Lalah Brown, Rose Toler and Lena Cook. Survivors include two sons, Raymond Lusk of Parkersburg and Harold Lusk of Raleigh, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Neva G. Lusk of Charleston, R. Keith Lusk of Denver, Jeffery Lusk of Dallas, Greg Lusk of Baltimore, Patty Gay and Larry David Lusk, both of Hampton, Va., and Leslie Lynch and Eric Lusk, both of Raleigh, N.C.; five great-grandchildren, Christine and Thomas Chambers, both of Charleston, and Christopher Gay, Matthew and David Lusk, all of Hampton; and two sisters, Barbara Cook of Oceana and India Dancey of Jessee. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Toneda Baptist Church, near Oceana, with the Revs. Dwight Stafford and Ralph Whitten officiating. Burial will follow at Kopperston Family Cemetery. Born Nov. 25, 1912, in Logan, he was the son of the late Wayne and Martha Mary Williams Marcum. Mr. Marcum was a retired general mine foreman from Carbon Fuel No. 6 Mines. He attended Oak Hill Gospel Tabernacle, Oak Hill Lodge No. 120 AF & AM, Sewell Chapter No. 24 RAM and Mount Hope Commandery No. 22 KT. He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Gene and William Riley Marcum Jr. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Jean Smith Skaggs Marcum; two daughters, Shirley Ann Starkey of Columbus, Ohio, and Betty Jo Dendy of North Carolina; four sons, Lloyd Lee Marcum of Ansted and Charles Douglas, Carl Alvin and Raymond Edward Marcum, all of Columbus; a brother, Pollice Marcum of Chapmanville; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Allen Gallimore officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted by Oak Hill Lodge No. 120 AF & AM. "Skee" Pegram, 51, of Coal City, formerly of Winding Gulf, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born July 25, 1948, at Farley Hill, he was the son of L.G. "Toby" and Mae Ruth (Coleman) Pegram of Coal City. Mr. Pegram was a former coal miner and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam war. He attended Tilden Community and Princewick Community churches and was a member of the National Rifle Association, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 1606 in Beckley and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4326. He was preceded in death by a brother, Golden Lee Pegram. Other survivors include his maternal grandmother, Francis Coleman of Coal City; three daughters, Rosie June Miller and her husband, Jeff, of MacArthur, Shawna Michelle Leigh Long and her husband, Jamie, of Munss Air Force Base, Belgium, and Gloria Darlene Pegram and her fiance, Brandyn Small, of Warner Robins, Ga.; a sister, Connie Jean Hall and her husband, Paul, of Coal City; a niece, Linda Mae Davis and her husband, Michael, of Beaver; a great-niece, Kaitlyn Michelle Davis of Beaver; and a grandson, Jonathan Allen Miler of MacArthur. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Sophia, with the Rev. Edward Garten officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley. Plumley CLIFTON FORGE, Va. - Elizabeth Catherine Plumley, 56, died Friday, Dec, 17, 1999, at her home following a short illness. Born Jan. 27, 1943, in Hinton, she was the daughter of Lilly Martin Gill of Hinton and the late Morgan Gill. Mrs. Plumley was a nurse assistant for Shenandoah Care Center, Clifton Forge, and a past matron of Silver Leaf Chapter No. 5 of the Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Lee and Billy Joe Gill. Other survivors include three sons, John, Joe and Jerry Plumley, all of Hinton; three brothers, Jerry, Mike and Mark Gill, all of Hinton; five sisters, Anna Vandall of Norfolk, Va., Emma Lee Richmond of Hinton, Kay Moss of Schikaschiny, Pa., Phyllis Crook of Hinton and Linda Milam of Pence Springs; and six grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel, Hinton, with the Rev. Robert Glaser officiating. Burial will follow in Hilltop Cemetery, Hinton.
