Lilly HILLDALE - Hazel Madeline Lilly, 69, died at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born Jan. 28, 1930, in Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Vergie M. Gill Wills. Mrs. Lilly was a homemaker and a member of Rollynsburg Baptist Church, Talcott. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Luther Gillian, in 1967; her second husband, Thomas Lilly, on Feb. 6, 1999; a son, Dwight David Gillian; and a brother, Julius Wills. Survivors include three sons, Johnny Gillian of Fairhope, Ala., Beuford Gillian of Jay, Fla., and Carey Gillian of Shady Spring; two daughters, Judy Paradise of Bartow, Ga., and Janice McCall of Mitchell, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Born March 9, 1916, in Basin, he was the son of the late Ingram Lusk and Onie Kinser Lusk. Mr. Lusk was a lifelong resident of Herndon, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the DAV. He was owner-operator of Lusk Grocery in Herndon with 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gracie Pearl McKinney Lusk, in 1969. Survivors include five daughters, Summer Jane Schrader and her husband, Gary, of Princeton, Donna Lambert and her husband, George, of Mullens, Shelma Severt and her husband, Eddie, of Bolt, Frances Austin and her husband, Keith, of Herndon Heights, and Sharon Schrader and her husband, Dennis, of Princeton; two sons, Phillip Allen Lusk and his his wife, Wanda, of Princeton, and Eddie L. Polk James Chester Polk, 75, of Sophia, died Monday, Dec. 20, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born June 30, 1924, in Sophia, he was the son of Victoria Pittman Hughes of Crab Orchard and the late James D. Polk. Mr. Polk was a retired coal miner and a member of Sophia First Baptist Church. He was a member of UMWA District No. 29 and a lifetime member of the DAV. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Born Jan. 30, 1930, in Mullens, she was the daughter of the late Newman L. and Bonnie Mullis Little. Mrs. Reedy was a 1948 graduate of Mullens High School and lived most of her life in Allen Junction and Corinne. She was an active member of Highland Avenue Baptist Church, Mullens. She worked for more than 31 years as a cashier for A&P supermarkets in Mullens and South Oakwood Avenue in Beckley, having retired from the Harper Road store. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Newman "Dick" Little. Survivors include her husband of 46 years, William Estill Reedy; a brother, Bill Little of Beckley; and five sisters, Ann Mullins and Dorothy Dye, both of Allen Junction, Leona Wilcox of Beckley, Rose Evans of Smyrna, Del., and Bonnie Byrd of Baltimore. Born Dec. 27, 1919, in Griffithsville, he was the son of the late Kenner and Docia Miller Spurlock. Mr. Spurlock was an employee of Emmons Hawkins Hardware and retired from Huntington Wholesale Furniture Co. He was a member of Yawkey United Methodist Church, a former member of the Hamlin Lions Club and the Clay County VFW, and was a World War II veteran. She was a former nurse's aide and caregiver in the Washington, D.C., area as well as the Raleigh County area. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F. Wallace Sr.; her foster mother, Laura Simmons; her stepmother, Bertie Dolinger; six brothers, Lawrence, Thomas, Everett, Elmer, Frankie and Benny Roark; three sisters, Lona Elliott, Edith Long and Martha Bryant; and three infant brothers. Mrs. Wriston was a homemaker and a retired employee of Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital with 10 years of service in the maintenance and dietary departments. She had been a resident of Maple Fork for 30 years. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert "Robbie" Denvil Wriston Jr.; a sister, Nancy Marie McClaugherty Slocum; and a grandson, Steven Max Wingrove.
