Register Herald Obituaries for December 24, 1999 Gerald K. Halsey Gerald Keith Halsey, 65, of 116 Chestnut Lane, Daniels, died 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1999, in a Beckley hospital, following a long illness. Born June 4, 1934, at Saulsville, he was the son of Lake Cline Halsey of Saulsville and the late George Halsey. Mr. Halsey was a retired painter and an employee of Pinecrest Hospital. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. Other survivors include his wife, Oneida Thomas Halsey; four children, three stepchildren, two brothers and three sisters. Graveside rites and burial will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at the American Legion Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Sophia-Midway VFW Post 4326. Arrangements by Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley. ---------- Alice D. Toler Alice Deitrick Toler, 74, of Clear Fork, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, in a Knoxville, Tenn., hospital following a short illness. Born March 23, 1925, at Wilburn, she was the daughter of the late George Deitrick and Anna Trent Deitrick. Mrs. Toler attended Baileysville High School, Marshall College and Concord College. She was a teacher at Coal Mountain and Baileysville schools for 13 years. She owned and operated, along with her husband, Toler's Grocery at Sun Hill, until 1975. She was a payroll clerk for Bigelow-Liptak Co. from 1975 until present time and was a member of the Clear Fork Valley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norvell Toler; and three brothers, Donald, Earsel and Mason Wellman. Survivors include a son, Norvell Ray Toler of Clear Fork; a stepdaughter, Shirley Toler Pyle of Wilmington, N.C.; a sister, Joann Adkins of Catlettsburg, Ky.; a sister-in-law, Caroll Wellman of Kingsport, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Evans Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Erwin Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Randy Brooks, Will Hall, Kirk Riffe, Scott Walters, David Walters, Christopher Hall, and Scott Brooks.
