Register Herald Obituaries for February 5, 2000 Christine A. Cobb Christine A. Cobb, 61, of 108 Sixth St., Beckley, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. She was born Sept. 12, 1938, in NewYork. Mrs. Cobb was preceded in death by a son, Arnold Leak Jr. Survivors include her husband, Levi Cobb; a son, Derrick Leak of Durham, N.C.; a daughter, Denise Roach and her husband, Mark, of Moorhead, Minn.; three stepchildren, Levi Cobb Jr., Vaundra Michelle Cobb and Clennel Cobb; two grandsons, Antonio Leak and Nicholas West; two great-grandchildren, Tony Jr. and Camesha; her mother-in-law, Viola Scott; two sisters-in-law, Rosa Robinson of New York City and Helen Ballinger of Bronx, N.Y.; an aunt, Lillian Chadwick of New Bern, N.C.; and a host of relatives and friends. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley, with the Rev. Thomas Steelman officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley. Friends may call one hour before services Sunday at the funeral parlor. Arrangements by Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley. ---------- Ernest Eugene Floyd Ernest Eugene Floyd, 91, of Prosperity, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born Nov. 1, 1908, in Swopes, Va., he was the son of the late Eugene S. and Dora E. Wilson Floyd. Mr. Floyd spent his childhood at Metalton, lived in Baltimore for 21 years and was a resident of Miramar, Fla., for six years. In Baltimore, Mr. Floyd worked at the shipyard, and when he moved to Florida he worked as a welder and electrician for Ascor Electronics. Mr. Floyd returned to the Beckley area in 1969, where he resided in Prosperity. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, a past deacon of the church and a member of the Beacon Sunday School class. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mabel Persinger, Virginia Apperti and Frances Hooker; and two brothers, Jack Floyd and Robert "Bob" Floyd. Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Gladys Clements Floyd; two sisters, Margie Crowder of Prosperity and Pauline Rand of Beckley; two brothers, Russell Floyd of Beckley and James Floyd of Bradley; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Baptist Church, Beckley, with the Rev. Paul Blizard officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Friends may call after 2 p.m. until time of services Sunday at the church. Arrangements by Melton Mortuary, Beckley. ---------- Ronald R. Lilly PENCE SPRINGS - Ronald Ray Lilly, 37, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at White Sulphur Springs Continuous Care Center from complications of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Born Oct. 7, 1962, in Hinton, he was the son of Mrs. Anna Belle Lilly of Gap Mills and the late Joseph Ray Lilly. Mr. Lilly was an employee of Pence Springs Hotel until his illness prevented him from working. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Oliver Carl, Della Faye and Ada Francis Smith; and his paternal grandparents, John Henry and Nancy Birchfield Lilly. Other survivors include a brother, Randy Oliver Lilly and his wife, Ruby, of Pipestem; a sister, Della Faye Lilly of Covington, Ga.; his twin sister, Debra Kay Pilkins and her husband, Jimmy, of Bluefield; four nieces; and a nephew. Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Monday at Hinton Gospel Tabernacle with Pastors Lawrence Bennett and Randy Lilly officiating. The body has been cremated.
