Mr. Adkins was a retired coal miner. Born June 19, 1911, at Pear, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Nannie Plumley Bennett. Mrs. Bennett was a homemaker, of the Holiness faith and lived most of her life in the Pluto Road area. She was preceded in death by two sons, Johnny Andrew Bennett and Ellis Wade Bennett, and an infant son; two brothers, Chester and Wade Thomas Bennett; and three sisters, Flora Bragg, Meredith "Kitty" Goodson Kincaid and Zona Stacey. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Ellas Bennett; a son, Jimmy Darrell Bennett and his wife, Elsie, of Pluto Road, Shady Spring; four daughters, Retha Redden and her husband, Daniel, of Charmco, Emma Allen and her husband, Billy Joe, of Pluto Road, Shady Spring, Marie Bragg of Cleveland, Ohio, and Lutcy Scott and her husband, Harrison, of Mabscott; five sisters, Eva Goodson of Abraham, Elzena Bennett of Akron, Ohio, Lorene Goodson of Shady Spring, Novella Bennett of White Oak and Ella Mae Bennett of Raleigh; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Born Feb. 11, 1949, in Fairmont, he was a son of Ray Berdine and his wife, Loretta, of Clarksburg and his mother, Mary Lou Clutter Fitzgerald of Mullens. Mr. Berdine was a member of Assembly of God Church, Pittsburgh, and worked for Giant Eagle Inc. for more than 20 years and was a supervisor. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Dennis Fitzgerald. Survivors include two brothers, Richard Berdine of Williamstown and Jay Berdine of Mullens; and a stepbrother, Wayne Fitzgerald of Amigo. Arrangements by Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens. ---------- Mattie Agnes Boyd ALDERSON - Mattie Agnes Gilliam Drumheller Boyd, 102, formerly of Thayer, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital, Hinton, following a long illness. Born March 7, 1897, at Pax, she was a daughter of the late Charlton and Laura Tyree Gilliam. Mrs. Boyd was a homemaker and had been a resident of Summers County Continuous Care Center, Hilldale, since 1986. She was a member of Griffith Creek Baptist Church, Alderson, where she was a member of the ladies circle. At the time of her death, she was the oldest member of the church. She was also a member of the ladies auxiliary of Tri County Memorial VFW Post 6723, Alderson. Mrs. Boyd achieved quite an accomplishment by living in three different centuries. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Emmett Drumheller; her second husband, Lawrence "Bill" Boyd; a son, Woodson Drumheller; three brothers, John Oather Gilliam, Walter Everett Gilliam and Granville Resin Gilli-am; five sisters, Opha Ethel Gilliam, Anna Belle Gilliam, Mamie Ellen Gilliam, Lura Evelyn Gilliam and Sylvia Madeline Tankersley; and a grandson, Brad Lowe. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Boyd Lowe of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Pansy Parker Drumheller of Fairfield, Calif.; five grandchildren, E.W. Drumheller III of Olympia, Wash., Rebecca Wilson of El Cajon, Calif., Shalimar Bachman of Columbus, Debra Voiles of Dayton, Ohio, and Patricia Drumm of Cedarville, Ohio; a niece, Doris Olson of Springfield, Ohio; 13 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, neph-ews and cousins. Born April 24, 1919, at Crickmer, Fayette County, he was the son of the late David Marion and Sally Martin Bragg. Mr. Bragg was retired from the bridge force of C&O Railway Co. and was a member of Sandstone Baptist Church. He lived most of his life in Summers County. He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Donna Coleman Bragg; a granddaughter, Melissa Sparks Adkins of Hinton; a great-grandson, John Coleman Adkins of Hinton; and a sister, Mary Fox of Bellwood. Born Jan. 26, 1913, in Walsenburg, Colo., she was the daughter of the late Noble S. and Gertrude Brandon Steele. Mrs. Brown was a resident of Ronceverte most of her life and a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Ronceverte. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ardis Steele Johnson and Ruth Steele Johnson; and a brother, Chester Steele. Survivors include four nieces, Jewell Steele Williams of Los Angeles, Barbara J. Maginley of Annapolis, Md., June Johnson White of Shaker Heights, Ohio, and Sandra Johnson Johnson of Lakewood, Ohio; two nephews, Charles O. Johnson of Washington and Edward N. Mr. Butcher was a Christian, an Army veteran of World War II and a retired coal miner with Westmoreland Coal Co. at Quinwood. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline C. Butcher, in 1996; and a son, Ricky Butcher. "Snook" Dobbins, 69, U.S. Army, retired, formerly of Hinton, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in Fort Sam Houston Hospital, San Antonio, following a short illness. Born Oct. 27, 1930, in Hinton, he was a son of the late Roy Dobbins and Sadie Lilly Dobbins. Mr. Dobbins was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a blessing to his family. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was quite a character, and everyone enjoyed his company. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Dobbins; a daughter, Lynda Dobbins of San Antonio; a son, Michael Dobbins and his wife, Christine, of San Antonio; a sister, Martha Ann Richmond and her husband, Harold, of Beckley; two brothers, Roy Lee Dobbins and Charles Earl Dobbins, both of Hinton; four grandchildren, Mandy and Christy Munro, Michael Garrett Dobbins and Joshua Robert Dobbins, all of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cletis E. Gentry; three sisters, Louella Bika, Isabelle Berry and Lorene "Shorty" Taylor; and a brother, Clarence Ayers. Survivors include two daughters, Linda H. Bennett Sr. Mrs. Milam was a homemaker, a member of Chestnut Knob Christian Church, Layland, and also attended Cranberry Community Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther J. Milam Sr.; a brother and a sister. Other survivors include a daughter, Bonita Kay Holtzapfel of Beaver; two sons, Luther J. She was manager of H&P General Store, Clear Fork, for 40 years and worked in a defense factory in Hyattsville, Md., for two years during World War II. She was a member of Clear Fork Advent Church for 45 years, a member of the Eastern Star of Mullens and a member of the Women's Home and Foreign Mission Group of the church. She was church treasurer for 40 years, church pianist for 30 years and Sunday school teacher for 25 years. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Chauncie Pennington; a son, Chauncey Greg Pennington and his wife, Renae, of Clear Fork; three sisters, Esther Hicks of Oceana and Joyce V. Cook and her husband, Gene T., and Janet Goins, all of Clear Fork; three brothers, Rodney E. "Gene" Short and his wife, Eulaine, and Gerald Short and his wife, Faye, all of Oceana, and Clarence D.
